Applying Mineral Makeup Foundation

Follow these simple steps to apply mineral makeup and create flawless looking skin.

  • After washing your face, apply a gentle moisturizer. Allow the moisturizer to completely absorb into your skin before applying your mineral makeup.
  • Pour a very small amount of mineral foundation powder into the container's lid.
  • Swirl your makeup brush into the powder and then tap the brush on the edge of the container to get rid of any excess.
  • The key to the flawless finish of mineral makeup is light layers. Do not put too much powder on your brush.
  • If you have an area that needs extra attention, use a smaller concealer brush and spot mineral powder onto the area.
  • Begin applying mineral powder to your face near the jaw line and hair line. In a circular motion while pressing gently, buff the powder onto your face.
  • Continue applying the powder working inward and finish with your nose last.
  • Wait a few minutes and allow the mineral powder to seemingly disappear into your skin.
  • Check your face and see if you need any extra coverage in any particular area and add more mineral makeup in the same fashion on the problem areas.
  • When applying blush, bronzer and other mineral makeup, use very small amounts. Because the pigments are concentrated, a little goes a long way.
At Makeup.com, you can find different brands offering the best mineral makeup products available, including Alison Raffaele, Avanya and several others.

Get a Healthy Looking Glow

After applying your mineral makeup foundation, you may want to give yourself a sun-kissed look by adding a bit of bronzer to your skin.

Tap a little bit of mineral bronzer powder into the lid of the container. Swirl your mineral makeup brush into the product and tap off the excess. Apply a little bronzer onto your skin where the sun naturally hits your face - your cheeks, nose, forehead and chin. Do not use too much bronzer. Because mineral makeup contains concentrated pigments, just a little bit will go a long way.

If you are looking for a more dewy look, combine mineral bronzer with just a little bit of water or moisturizer to make it creamy. Using your fingers, apply the cream to your cheeks, nose and other parts of your face. Blend naturally to warm up your skin.

Don't choose a bronzer that is too dark or too orange. Select a color which contains gold or peach tones that are similar to how your tan naturally.

How to Apply Mineral Eyeshadow

Mineral eyeshadow application is similar to that of traditional eyeshadow. However because of concentrated pigments, you can use smaller amounts of mineral makeup.

  • Using a small brush, apply your main eyeshadow color over your entire lid from the lash line to the eyebrow. Use long sweeping strokes.
  • Add another lighter color to the lid only. Then follow up with a third color to accent the crease of the lid.
  • Blend the colors gently with your brush for a natural look.
  • Top eyeshadow with a dusting of mineral finishing powder to prevent creasing.
  • For a dramatic effect and deeper color, apply wet with a damp brush.
You can also use the mineral eye shadow product as an eyeliner. Tap a small amount of powder into the lid. Dip the eyeliner brush into a small amount of water and mix with powder until the product is creamy. Apply to your lash line in thin or bold lines.

Makeup.com offers a variety of different mineral eyeshadows from top name brands, such as Alison Raffaele, Avanya and many others.

Reasons to Try Mineral Makeup

In recent years, mineral makeup has become increasingly popular. However, many women still have not made the switch from traditional makeup to mineral cosmetics. If you are looking for a reason to try mineral makeup, there are several.

One of the greatest benefits of mineral makeup is that it is healthy. It adheres to the natural oils in your skin and doesn't seep into your pores. Therefore, it is actually good for your skin. Pure mineral makeup doesn't contain additives, fragrances or chemicals which can damage and irritate your skin. It also protects your skin against free radicals. Mineral foundation offers protection and smooth coverage, but also allows your skin to breathe.

Another reason you should switch to mineral based makeup is because it is very versatile. You can mix mineral makeup foundation with water or moisturizer to create a liquid or cream foundation, which will offer the consistency and coverage your need. Mineral makeup also has a much longer shelf-life than regular cosmetics. Because there are no chemicals or fillers in mineral makeups, you don't have to worry about the products going bad, as they do not harbor bacteria.

When you consider all the factors - healthy skin, versatile coverage and long shelf life- it is no wonder that more and more women have made the switch to mineral makeup.
