What’s Trending: The New Blue Eye Makeup
You’ve seen it before. All over your parents’ wedding photos; center stage in Cyndi Lauper’s music videos; buried deep in that glitter encrusted makeup bag from middle school.
Blue eye makeup.
Don’t grab your hair crimper just yet, we are not going to an 80’s costume party. On the contrary, blue eye makeup is strutting its way back into modern beauty, popping up all over the Spring 2013 Runways. From Moschino Cheap and Chic, to Stella McCartney to Giorgio Armani, blue lashes, liners, and lids were everywhere this season.
Here’s how to master the new and improved blue:
Mind Your Tone
To keep your blue looking modern, the right shade is key.
Makeup Artist Elyse Reneau gave us this tip: One of the best ways to stay true to the trend and not end up in ‘80’s music video territory is to stay away from frosty tones. Feeling a little flirty? Try replacing your normal black liquid liner with a line of brilliant cobalt.
For cobalt options, we love Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Chaos or Laura Mercier Crème Eye Liner in Cobalt. Navy is also a flattering option. Our current favorites are Yves Saint Laurent Volume Effect Faux Clis in Midnight Blue and Lancôme Long Wear Calligraphy Gel EyeLiner in Indigo Darling.
The other key to pulling off the new blue is to keep the rest of your look simple. Keep your cheek and lip color to a minimum, and instead opt for a natural, flawless complexion, and a matte nude lip. Stay away from big hair when rocking this look, and opt for sleek strands or a relaxed bun.
