Why We Love Red Lipstick for Summer

The June cover of Teen Vogue caught our attention for two reasons:
1. Amanda Seyfried is our favorite new It girl. She's the elegant antidote to all the Hollywood party girls, and she's beautiful to boot. We predict she's next in line to score a cosmetics contract (no, we don't know anything you don't know. We're just speculating!). 2. How gorgeous is her lip color! It's Maybelline New York Color Sensational Lipcolor in Are You Red-Dy. We're big fans of red lipstick in the summer. Not only is it unexpected, but it looks so refreshing with the season's bronzy skin and softly flushed cheeks. The trick is to choose an orange-y red, like the one Amanda is wearing, to keep things bright. And skip anything matte—it's too heavy for summer. You want a creamy lipstick so the color looks moist. You can even wear this look during the daytime: After you swipe on the color, blot your lips with a tissue to take the shade down to a soft red stain. Just keep in mind that red lips, no matter which way you wear them, only work in the summer if the rest of your makeup is fresh and natural. For Amanda's cover look, that meant nothing more than a taupe eye shadow (Maybelline Eye Studio Eyeshadow in Sunset Seduction) and black mascara (Maybelline XXL Pro 24-Hr Bold Mascara). Would you wear lipstick in the summer? If so, what else would you wear it with? PHOTO FROM TEEN VOGUE
