Winter-Proof Hair Color With These 4 Tips

During the winter months, hair can become dry, frizzy and fried due to a lack of moisture in the air, which is no fun for your color! Have no fear! You can still maintain color and keep it looking glossy with these winter-proof tips!

Winter-Proof Hair Color

1. Protect Your Color.

Start with a regimen of moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, such as Kérastase Bain Satin 2 or Lait Vital. Properly moisturized hair will better retain color and be less prone to frizz. .

2. Do a Quick-Fix.

In between color applications, stop by your salon for a glaze. It will add shine to your color that will make your hair look more vibrant.

3. Watch Your Water Exposure.

Reduce washing your hair to once or twice per week and stay away from hot water. Heat fades color and causes split ends. Instead, wash and condition with warm or cool water. Still hanging on to those hot showers? Clip your hair up while the shampoo and conditioner soak and turn up the temperature. When it's time to rinse, cool it back down.

4. Lay Off the Bleach.

You don’t need to be bright blonde in the winter months, says Kacey Welch from Jonathan and George in Beverly Hills. Try two or three months without going super light, and your color will look healthier for it.
