If you live in New York City—or if you happen to be visiting here this weekend—you're in for one of fashion and beauty's biggest events of the year: Fashion's Night Out, taking place this Friday, September 10th. If you're not familiar with the event, here's the scoop: It was started last year by Vogue's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour as a way to get people excited about shopping again in the wake of the economic downturn, which severely affected the fashion and retail industries. It's a city-wide shopping party in which hundreds of stores stay open until 11 P.M. and offer exciting events from celebrity appearances to limited-edition products that are for sale only on this one night. This year, the beauty world is taking the event by storm! Read on for a guide to some of the amazing experiences our brands will be offering (and if you're not going to be in NYC, visit the official Fashion's Night Out website for a list of other FNO events happening on Friday across the country and world, including in L.A., Miami, and London).
The Body Shop: Get a free makeup session (plus a complimentary lipstick of your choice) with celebrity makeup artist Jim Crawford at their flagship store, located at 420 Lexington Avenue (between 43rd and 44th Streets). If there's no time to have your makeup done, you'll still receive a pampering gift when you spend $25 or more in the store. (And if you're not in NYC, check thebodyshop.com for a list of other stores around the country offering complimentary makeovers that night.)
Giorgio Armani Beauty: Stop by the fashion house's 5th Avenue store (717 Fifth Avenue at 56th Street) for a free touch-up from a Giorgio Armani Beauty makeup artist, then strike a pose with supermodel and Leonardo DiCaprio's l'amour Bar Refaeli, who'll be mingling with shoppers and taking photos with them from 8 to 10 P.M.
Kiehl's: It's "Karaoke Karnival" at the brand's flagship store located at 109 Third Avenue (at 13th Street). From 6 to 11 P.M., celebrity singers including Jordin Sparks, R&B singer Mateo, and Richie Rich will be performing live in the store. You can sing karaoke for a free lip balm, enter to win exclusive Kiehl's gifts (raffled off every hour), and receive 10 percent off any purchase of $65 or more.
Lancôme: They've got two treats in store: First, take a tango lesson with brand spokesmodels Elettra Wiedemann and Arlenis Sosa (that's them in the above photo, getting their grove on in this month's Vogue) at the Lancôme counter at Bloomingdale's 59th Street. Professional tango dancers will be doing mini performances every half-hour, and you can get a free touch-up with products from the French Coquettes Fall 2010 collection. Then at 7 P.M., head over at Sephora Fifth Avenue (between 48th and 49th Streets), where YouTube's most popular video makeup artist Michelle Phan will be making her first ever personal appearance and filming one of her videos live in the front window. From 8 to 9 P.M., Michelle and Vogue beauty editor Christina Han will be chatting with shoppers and answering all their questions.
L'Oréal Paris: L'Oréal's Elnett Car, which will be cruising around Fashion Week every day through September 14, will be parked near the H&M store in Soho on Friday night, with L'Oréal pros giving out free bottles of Elnett and providing touch-ups. Follow hair consultant Johnny Lavoy on Twitter (@JohnnyLavoy), who'll tweeting the Elnett mobile's exact location. Once you arrive at the car, check in via FourSquare and you'll be entered to win a year's supply of the cult-classic hairspray.
Maybelline New York: Stop by the Maybelline New York Hot Spot, which will be located at the corner of 9th Avenue and 13th Street in the Meatpacking District from 6 to 11 P.M. The first 50 guests will receive a limited-edition makeup bag designed by Michael Angel and filled with Maybelline makeup. If you miss the early bird special, don't worry—makeup artists will be on hand all night to provide free mini-makeovers. There will also be a "Sensational Strut" contest where you can show off your runway walk for a chance to win a year's supply of Maybelline products. Spokesmodels Emily DiDonato, Jessica White, and Lisalla Montenegro will serve as the judges while Sean Lennon and model Kemp Muhl DJ the tunes. Not in New York? Maybelline will also have Hot Spots in Chicago's Water Tower Building and Miami's Design District at The Garden Lounge.
Redken: Visit the Soho Betsey Johnson store at 138 Wooster Street (between Prince and Houston Streets) for a consultation and free touch-up from a Redken hairstylist. Make a purchase at the store, and you'll receive a gift card to the Cutler Salon for a free haircut with color service, as well as a gift bag of Redken products.
Yves Saint Laurent Beauty: Everyone who purchases one of their new Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks (hitting stores next month) at the Sephora Times Square at 43rd Street and Broadway will be entered to win one of three pairs of YSL's new Tribute Too Red heels, with one pair awarded every hour. DJ Alexandra Richards will spin in celebration of YSL's Rouge Flame lipstick for Sephora, and free touch-ups will be offered by YSL makeup artists.
