For many of the women who stepped onto the red carpet at the 85th Academy Awards, the walk into the Dolby Theatre was the culmination of a long journey, from starring in their nominated films to promoting them at evening after evening of premieres and events. But their Oscar looks signaled a fresh beginning, with gowns in ivory, blush and champagne and with makeup and hair perfect for an ingenue. Anne Hathaway set the standard with sideswept bangs, a subtle cat eye and a pink pout that paired beautifully with her Tiffany choker of diamond florettes and her satin Prada column dress. Charlize Theron's sheered pixie cut was also youthful, capping off a flawless matte complexion with just a touch of glimmer at the apples of her cheeks and on her lips. Both Jennifer Lawrence and Amanda Seyfried did not miss a step in soft updos, smoky eyes in shades of blues and lavenders and rosy smiles. Jessica Chastain turned up the glamour with cascading waves and a red lip, but the simplicity in the rest of her makeup had less to do with old Hollywood and more about the blossoming of star power.
