Whether you're tired, under the weather or having a bad day, dull eyes can give you away. When rest and recovery isn't an option, these makeup tips can brighten up your eyes in minutes!
Use a shimmery shadow as your base color. Champagne, gold, silver and light pink are great color options. Even when you layer shadow on top, the shimmer shows through, lending light and sparkle to the eye, says Liz Fuller, a Boston-based makeup artist.
Put Down the Pencil
When accentuating the lower lash line, avoid using a pencil liner. It can create a harsh, sharp line that doesn't exactly brighten up the eye. Fuller suggests applying shadow with a small, tapered brush instead. Try colors like chocolate browns, grays and dark blues — we love NYX Cosmetics Nude Matte Shadow in Betrayal, Craving, or Voyeur — as alternatives to basic black.
Don’t Forget the Brows
Fill in your brows with a powder or gel a shade darker than your natural brow color. Our latest obsession is Maybelline Eyestudio Brow Drama. After filling in any holes or sparse areas, use a highlighter pencil to trace under and above the brows, says Fuller.
Highlight and Conceal
Use a pearl or champagne-colored highlighter for your under-eye area. Draw an inverted triangle with the concealer and blend by patting it into the skin. Then, repeat this step using your favorite concealer. Dust finishing powder on top to set the makeup.
