Everyone loves a classic. Whether it involves Ryan Gosling rowing a boat in the rain or Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey brilliance, we will always be on board for a good crowd-pleasing product. This is especially true when it comes to lipstick. The popularity and social status of a lippie speaks volumes on its wearability, color and overall fabulousness. That’s why we reached out to seven of our fave beauty brands to give us the skinny on their cult-classic lipsticks. Oh, and we also did a little digging in the cyber-sphere to find out why people love them so darn much.

Sorry red and hot pink, this bubbly-inspired shade (that reminds us of rosé all day), is the universal favorite for Lancôme-lovers. Is it the versatility or the fact that it works with every skin tone that makes it a winner? We guess all of the above.
Take this standing ovation from a MakeupAlley user: “The finish is very wearable. The color is very wearable, too. Although ‘Champagne’ is a super-bright, pigmented pink both in the tube and on the lip, that great half-shin-half-matte finish allows for wearability with a casual or formal look …This is the perfect classic pink lipstick.”
Never underestimate the power of a solid berry-colored lippie. L’Oréal certainly wouldn’t. This is due to the fact that this mauve-y pink lip shade is constantly getting rave reviews.
One Drugstore.com reviewer stated: “L'Oréal's Blushing Berry lipstick is a staple in my make-up bag. I've gone through 3 or 4 lipsticks of this particular shade. It's a beautiful everyday color… not over the top but just enough color to make you feel great … Besides the shade, what I love most about this L'Oréal lipstick is its staying power, does not dry out my lips nor does it bleed, and the price.”
The name says it all. This unapologetic crimson shade will brighten up any room. And if you don’t believe us, just read what this reviewer wrote on Maybelline’s website: “I just bought Red Revival because I've been in need of a nice, bold red. I've never been able to find a great red that showed up as a TRUE red on my skin, until I bought Red Revival of course. I'm so content with my purchase! It’s so moisturizing too!”
This pinkish neutral shade proves that nude lipstick will always have a loyal following. The key to this brilliant lip color is its ability of avoiding a washed-out complexion (a risk taken with many nude lippies).
One beauty blog (Beauty Professor) review stated: “I recently encountered the most brilliant shade of muted bright pinky coral … it is both infinitely flushed in appearance and massively wearable! Retailing for $32, the Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro Matte Lacquer in #500 Blush has been sold out at my local Armani counter more often than not. In turn, when I finally was able to procure it, I unequivocally snapped it up (along with an additional tube for my mom!).”
Bold will always be best and this pink/purple hybrid proves it. From beauty bloggers and makeup artists to regular Joe lipstick lovers like us, this shade is getting an enthusiastic thumbs up.
Lipstick blog Pout Pretty said of the bright pink hue: “It is intensely pigmented, has a creamy texture, gives a slightly glossy finish, does not feather or bleed, smells really nice, is hydrating and stays for around four to five hours.”
Apparently makeup lovers are all about running around in their birthday suits, because this pink-nude shade is a HUGE crowd-pleaser. And with its creamy texture and pigment load, we totally get it.
One Naked-obsessed reviewer wrote: “I received a Vice Lipstick in ‘Naked’ a while back. I've never been a big lipstick person and usually stuck to Chapstick or tinted gloss. I tried it and fell in love with it as well as the color. Just a simple pink to enhance my natural lips! I think my ‘Naked’ lipstick was a great introduction for me as I've now expanded my horizons and am beginning to explore with more colors as well as makeup looks.”
Excuse us while we strip down to our Vice Lipstick.
OK, so these are technically new and we’re technically not focusing on one particular shade. But the sheer insanity and obsessive tendencies these lippies have caused have officially catapulted them to cult status. Who thought nude lipstick could be so diverse and oh-so bold?
One fan wrote on the brand’s website: “I didn't realize there could be so many shades of nude. Very matte. Won't move once dry … ‘Bedtime Flirt’ will look good on everyone and with anything. When you want a nude lip that won’t stand out but pulls the whole makeup look together, go for ‘Bedtime Flirt.’”
