A night of celebutantes, performance artists and fashion mavens alike collide each year at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Exhibition and Gala — and while most eyes have been glued to the various religion-inspired trains and hair pieces, it’s actually the innovative makeup looks that caught our eye this year. Ahead, we rounded up our favorite red carpet Met Gala 2018 beauty looks that had us reeling in heavenly glory, along with the superlatives that best suited each.
Most Likely to Redefine “Natural Makeup”
Zoe Kravitz, Makeup by Nina Park for YSL Beauty
YSL’s Nina Park gave natural makeup a new spin with this bare, dusty beige makeup look. Using the YSL Touche Eclat All In One Glow and the YSL Poudre Compact Radiance Perfector Universalle, Park created a glowy canvas for the monochromatic look. The eye, lip and cheek color were all created with the YSL Kiss & Blush Duo Stick in No. 6, making the finished look extremely easy to DIY.

Gigi Hadid, Makeup by Patrick Ta for Maybelline
Using the not-yet-released Maybelline New York Soda Pop Palette (sign up here to be notified when it’s available in September), Patrick Ta created a stained glass effect on Gigi Hadid’s eyes. To achieve the pastel look, Ta used a mixture of Grape Pop, Blue Raspberry and Cherry on Top from the unreleased palette on her lids and crease and finished it off with the Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Liner in Stellar Sand and Solar Gold. To compliment her dreamy eye look, Ta added the Maybelline Color Sensational Inti-Matte Nudes in Purely Nude to her pout. Truly, a look worthy of the Sistine Chapel.

Lily Collins, Makeup by Fiona Stiles for Lancôme
“When I heard the theme for the evening, I automatically leaned into the idea of the occult and the dark arts,” said Stiles regarding Lily Collins’ striking, almost sinister look. To achieve Collins’ sultry glow, Stiles applied Lancôme Teint Idole Custom Highlighting Drop in Champagne Glow all over her body and highlighted her face with Lancôme Le Duo Contour and Highlighting Stick in Ivoire. Next, to create her gorgeous (yet sunken and mesmerizing) eye makeup, Stiles went in with the Lancôme Color Design Eyeshadows in Smokey Brown and Volcano, along with the Lancôme Hypnôse Drama in Excessive Black. Finally, Stiles topped off Collins’ pout with the Lancôme Le Metallique Lip Gloss in Purple Onyx for a gothically-romantic finish.

Blake Lively, Makeup by Kristofer Buckle for L’Oréal Paris
Heavily inspired by Italian Catholic art, Buckle focused Lively’s look on strong contouring. To make her skin glow, he started with a mix of the L’Oréal Paris Hydra Genius Moisturizer and L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Glotion, followed by the L’Oréal True Match Lumi Bronze It Bronzer. Next, he used the new L’Oréal Paris Paradise Enchanted Eyeshadow Palette on her lids — and completed the eyes with the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara in Brown Black. To finish the ethereal look, Buckle usedL’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Shine Lipstick in Varnished Rosewood on Lively’s lips, and topped it all off with the Infallible Lip Paints in Bewitching Bordeaux. And voila — you have the face of a Saint.
