Sometimes opposites do attract, but not when it comes to oil. When it comes to the slick stuff, like attracts like. So if you are a woman trying to painstakingly get rid of that telltale shine (and the acne that can accompany it), do so with an oil-based cleanser. It may sound counterintuitive, but cleansers packed with good oils can bond with and break down your skin's pesky oils—as well as dirt and grime—to deliver a complexion that is freshly scrubbed down to the deepest pores and even properly moisturized, toned and fortified. We've noticed that such innovative (and nongreasy) cleansers have recently surged in popularity. Here is a roundup of our favorites. Josie Maran Argan Cleansing Oil ($32) prides itself on its all-natural ingredients that are suitable for all types of skin. It is loaded with argan, almond, safflower seed and grape seed oils, which work together to deeply unclog pores and quench skin. AmorePacific Treatment Cleansing Oil Face & Eyes ($50) puts even the most cantankerous waterproof mascara to shame. With the addition of water, this silky formula easily sweeps away every last speck of makeup and debris, leaving skin feeling squeaky-clean and gently moisturized. Bonus: its floral scent smells divine. Lancôme Huile Douceur Remove-All Deep Cleansing Oil Face & Eyes ($37) is an all-in-one cleansing oil that even those with sensitive skin can use. It dissolves makeup, rids the complexion of grime, offers up protection with antioxidant-rich white lotus and delivers a dose of moisture, courtesy of Japanese cedar bud extracts. The result is skin that feels velvety soft and toned. Boscia MakeUp-BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil ($26) decongests skin by eradicating dirt, the most stubborn makeup and greasy residue with its blend of botanical oils. We love it because it delivers a gently tingly and cool sensation while it goes to work, which can soothe an irritated, broken-out complexion. Shu Uemura Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/O Advanced ($77) was one of the first cleansing oils to make waves in the beauty world and remains the brand's number-one best-seller today. (Fun fact: a cleansing oil was actually Shu Uemura's first product launch in 1960.) This anti-aging A/O Advanced formula specifically removes oxidized sebum, which accelerates the onset of wrinkles. The Body Shop Moisture White Shiso Cleansing Oil ($15) features shiso, a Japanese herb with anti-aging benefits, and organic soybean oil, which reveals a firmer and more radiant complexion. This more budget-friendly product saves time, as well. There is no need for a separate makeup remover, cleanser, toner and moisturizer with this workhorse formula. DHC Deep Cleansing Oil ($5.50-$28) is another cult-favorite cleanser (also the brand's most popular product worldwide) that continues to get noticed. The natural blend of olive and rosemary leaf oil dissolves pore-clogging dirt to reveal a grime-free (and shine-free) face that still feels remarkably smooth. The added skin-loving ingredient of vitamin E gives the complexion a nice kick of soothing moisture, while the water-soluble formula rinses clean in a single pass.
