#WomanCrushWednesday digs into the beauty bags and schedules of our favorite women in beauty, while also discovering how they got their start.

This week we’re spotlighting Chanel Temple, Hourglass Global Makeup Artist, who shares why she’s in love with the brand’s new liquid Vanish Foundation formula, what it’s really like to be a full-time makeup artist and what makeup means to her.

What's your current beauty routine?

Makeup: For complexion, I’ve been using Vanish Seamless Finish Liquid Foundation and Ambient Lighting Palette on top. For eyes, I love glitter, so I usually do a mix of our Graphik Eyeshadow Palette in Vista topped with one of our Scattered Light Glitter Eyeshadows. Then I’ll finish with either a liquid wing or smudged black liner and always a gloss. Skin: Ren Clearcalm 3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser, tea tree oil for my acne, Hourglass Equilibrium Day Fluid and rosewater to set. Hair: Davines Hair Oil and Living Proof PhD Dry Shampoo.

What's a day in your life like?

Every day is different. I can spend a week on set for a new campaign or filming a new YouTube video, and the next week can be filled with press appointments or meetings with beauty influencers. Every day is an adventure!

Biggest pinch-me moment in your career so far?

I did a meet-and-greet at our flagship store in NYC and thought absolutely no one would show up. I was so nervous and told everyone it was a horrible idea until we realized there was a line down the street just to get in! I couldn’t believe it and felt overwhelmed.

Favorite makeup look you've created?

Last year, I worked on our Vanish Flash Highlighting Stick campaign. We had finished up the looks early, so our content director told me to do whatever I wanted and just mess around and shoot some other stuff. I created this really intense graphic eye look that our CEO ended up loving so much. We used the look in the campaign for a different product, our Curator Mascara.

Why did the brand decide to release the Vanish foundation in a liquid form?

Our Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick was so successful that we wanted to create a liquid counterpart with all the same amazing qualities. Foundation can be so personal, so we wanted to be sure we offered something for those who might prefer a liquid foundation over a stick.

What skin types does it work best on?

All skin types.

What other products pair well with it?

I love our Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders on top to give my skin that extra bit of glow.

Your best advice for aspiring makeup artists?

Practice, assist and be kind. You could be an extremely talented artist but might not book gigs if you’re not a kind person to work with. Let go of any ego and be open to learning, even if you’re experienced.

What makeup trend are you most excited about in 2019?

Bold colors and clean, natural skin. We saw so much color and fun eye looks in 2018, and I believe that will carry over, but the trend of contour and heavy foundation is gone. Foundation itself isn’t going away, but more people are opting for a natural finish, which is something that can be achieved whether you’re into light or full coverage.

Who is your muse?

If I had to choose one person, it would be Ava Gardner. She is classic, never too much, always elegant and just overall dreamy. She aged so beautifully and was always an example of class.

What music do you listen to while doing makeup?

When getting ready, I’m always listening to one of my Spotify playlists. I like having a mix, so I could go from listening to Sade to Black Flag to Johnny Cash to Marilyn Manson. It’s cliché but I really love everything. Music connects people, so I’ve always made it a point to listen to it all.

Makeup is_____.

Transformative and ever-changing.
