Each week we highlight a coveted makeup technique, hairstyle or nail design with a popular following, and get the tips and tricks for creating it from the person behind the original pin. For this edition we caught up with the blogger who painted this colorful lacquer.
When Dressed Up Nails blogger, Whitney Swiedler, set out to create a week’s worth of art-themed nail designs, she kicked off the challenge with this Art Deco-inspired look. She shared these steps for brightening up your nails.
What you need:
Base coat. Try: Duri Rejuvacote Nail Growth System.
Pink nail polish. Try: Zoya Nail Polish in Shelby.
Light blue nail polish. Try: China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Kinetic Candy.
Avocado green nail polish. Try: China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Def Defying.
How to do it:Step 1: Apply the base coat. "I use Duri Rejuvacote as my base coat because I used to have thin, weak, peely nails and it has literally completely transformed them into healthy, strong nails that almost never break," Swiedler says.
Step 2: Paint each nail with a different vibrant nail polish color. Swiedler used pink, light blue, green, bright blue and purple. Tip: “I used two coats of all the base colors, except the purple and pink, which needed three,” Swiedler says.
Step 3: Let the base colors dry for about five minutes.
Step 4: Drip a bit of each nail color onto a Post-it. Then use a striping brush to create the detailing. Again use one coat for each color, except for the pink and purple. “I just sort of started painting lines and then added more lines until I felt like it looked right,” Swiedler says. “I get a lot of questions about how I get such clean lines and the only answer really is practice and patience."
Step 5: Coat the design with a layer of top coat.
