Even though it feels like summer just started, fall is right around the corner whether we like it or not. Before we have to deal with the inevitable return of the PSL and the pressure of Halloween costumes, it’s important to get our nail game together. But before you ask your nail tech for a wine colored manicure, read this. We asked Essie celebrity manicurist and Paintbox Creative Director Julie Kandalec: How soon is too soon to transition to dark nail polish?
According to Julie, the whole year is fair game. Until recently, [she] was strict about "no dark colors between Memorial Day and the first day of September fashion week.” But over the past two years [she’s] seen colors like Midnight Cami (at Jill Stuart), Sole Mate (Michael Costello) and Wicked (Monique Lhuillier) on the spring runways, making it officially season-less. This is good news for anyone hesitating at the polish wall, stuck between rich, deep hues and bright summer shades.
If you’re still not convinced that nail polish should match your mood and not the weather, Julie suggests waiting until the Thursday after Labor Day (the official first day of NYFW) to be safe.
