Few would argue that Dita Von Teese is the pure embodiment of a classic, über-feminine pinup girl. But what most of us don’t know is that she (proudly) claims that she wakes up looking just like a regular girl and it’s her makeup that creates the magic we see: a poreless ivory complexion, ruby-red starlet lips, perfectly etched brows. If you’re up for revamping your look to be more—well—vampy, like Von Teese in the front row at Ulyana Sergeenko's spring 2013 haute couture show, makeup artist Nicole Bell tells us how. Step 1: Blend away any imperfections with a matte-finish foundation, like Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24H Wear & Comfort Retouch-Free Divine Perfection SPF 15 Sunscreen. Dust with a bit of powder to keep shine at bay. Try: Smashbox Photo Set Finishing Powder. Step 2: Apply a ballet-slipper pink blush—like Lorac Blush in Pink—to the apples of your cheeks only. Step 3: Darken and define brows by applying a brow powder shadow that’s slightly darker than your natural brows. Keep brush strokes short and thin for a polished look that's not too heavy-handed. Try: Urban Decay Brow Box. Step 4: Apply a base of cream-colored shadow onto your entire eyelids. Try: Maybelline Expert Wear Eyeshadow Single in Vanilla. Then blend a soft grayish-brown shadow—like Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Taupe—into the creases of your lids only to create depth and definition. Apply the same grayish-brown shadow to your lower lash lines. Step 5: Using black liquid liner, like L'Oréal Paris Lineur Intense Brush Tip Liquid Eyeliner in Black, draw a thin stroke along your upper lash lines, extending it out slightly beyond where your eyes end and sweeping upward at the corners. Step 6: Curl lashes and apply black mascara, like Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara. Glue a small section (or half strip) of false lashes to the top outer corners only. Then curl again to blend natural and fake lashes together. Try: Shu Uemura Slim Partial Accent Lashes. Step 7: For classic red lips, start by lining lips with red liner to keep lipstick from bleeding. Then use a lip brush to precisely apply a true red lipstick. Blot on a tissue and apply lipstick one more time to keep from fading. Try: MAC Lip Pencil in Cherry and Lipstick in Russian Red.
