#WCW: Carol’s Daughter Founder Lisa Price

Lisa Price is a female force to be reckoned with. She’s the founder of Carol’s Daughter, a leading natural hair care, body and skin care brand she started in her very own kitchen apartment. Today, the brand is a multi-million dollar, celebrity-endorsed beauty empire. Carol’s Daughter products line the shelves at Ulta and Target and are featured on HSN — some cult favorites being the Monoi Repairing Hair Mask, the Black Vanilla Moisture & Shine Leave-In Conditioner and the Monoi Oil Sacred Strengthening Serum.

We had the chance to interview Price about her career, her favorite Carol’s Daughter product of all time and to find out what beauty means to her. Read the whole interview, below.

Why were you inspired to develop Carol's Daughter? What were you doing before?  I used to work in Television Production. Carol's Daughter started from my love of fragrance. I began by making fragrances and then I placed those scents into body products that I made in my kitchen. I always had dry skin, and nothing ever worked on it until I made my own. What moment in your career are you most proud of? There are several. The time I went on Oprah. When I opened my first store. The time I worked with Mary J Blige to make a signature scent for her. But, most important, is the work I did on myself personally and the work that I did with my team that positioned the brand to be acquired by L'Oréal. That was two years of serious work on a business and even spiritual level, and I am very proud of that for sure. What's your favorite product? Is there one you can't live without? I have a few favorites in my line. My all-time fave is Monoi Anti-Breakage Spray. It is a leave-in spray, and I really cannot live without it. Aside from your wallet and phone, what do you keep in your bag at all times? A teeny tiny flashlight, a charger for my phone and lip balm. What does beauty mean to you? Beauty is something that is inherent in every single person. It cannot be put on or wiped off. It is a light that shines from within. Beauty by nature. What do you do for fun? I love old movies. I love going to the movies. I have been knitting for the past year. I was only a crocheter since age 11, and I have found that I love knitting. So relaxing. What advice would you give to your younger self, if you could? Trust your gut. You are smarter than you think.
