As much as we love to talk about (and try) the latest and greatest makeup trends, we’ll never forget about those classic, tried-and-true looks that we’ve been emulating since Mom let us wear makeup. There’s something to be said about looks that have dominated the beauty world for decades and even centuries (yes, centuries). To pay homage to these classics, we decided to roundup our favorites, plus give you the Maybelline New York products that will help you create the look! Let us know which one is your go-to. And don’t worry, there’s nothing wrong with picking all five!

Matte Makeup

The way we see it, any opportunity to make our skin look and feel virtually pore-free and flawless is a no-brainer. Here’s how to shine without, well, shining.

Step 1. Using a flat foundation brush or sponge, apply a mattifying foundation like Matte & Poreless Fit Me Foundationall over the face. Blend it out to the neck area as well so you have even color on both regions.

Step 2. Using a foundation that’s two shades darker than your skin tone, contour your cheekbones, sides of your nose and along the temples and hairline. Make sure to buff out the darker shade well to ensure the color is subtle. Then, apply a setting powder like Fit Me Loose finishing Powder to your face and underneath the eyes to lock in your makeup.

Fresh faced

There’s an art to creating that highly coveted fresh, “no-makeup”, flawless face—and it requires makeup. Here’s how to get it.

Step 1. Conceal flaws and counteract dullness and redness with a long-lasting concealer like Master Camo Color Correcting Pen. Its small applicator deposits just the right amount of makeup, which is key because you want to look like your skin is bare, yet perfect. Hide blemishes by dabbing lightly and blending concealer into skin with your pinky for the lightest touch. Dark circles are best hidden by swiping on concealer and blending. Smoky eye

From Cleopatra to Cara Delevingne, the smoky’s long been a part of the makeup canon. Check out this modern take on the classic—we’re calling it The Sooty Eye.

Step 1. Apply concealer to eyelids to even out color and serve as a primer so that this look doesn’t slide around (lest you look like a raccoon instead of a sultry goddess). Try Master Camo Color Correcting Pen to get rid of any dullness or darkness around the eyes.

Cat’s eye

There’s a reason that Cat Woman is one of the sexiest superheroes ever—anything channeling the smooth moves of a feline reads seductive. And the cat’s eye is certainly no exception. Here’s how to create one like a pro.

Step 1. Take your business card or a piece of tape and align the edge with the bottom corner of your upper lash line up to the outer edge of your brow. Card placement is key: Make sure you’re holding the card at an angle so the wing is going almost directly upward (at least 45 degrees) and not facing down or angled too horizontally.

Step 2. Using a dark, smooth eyeliner, draw a line along the edge of the card. The line should start as a continuation of your last lash, going up and out.  Try Master Precise Ink Metallic Liquid Liner.

Step 3. Go back and line the rest of your top lash line to your inner corner, staying as close to the lash line as possible. Do the same for your bottom lash line. Then make sure you fill in the area between the top line and bottom line at the outer corners with liner.

Red Lip

Nothing says classic like a lush red lip. It can transform a simple black dress into a red-carpet number. Here’s how to get it right.

Step 1. Unless you have the most luscious of lips, avoid deep reds. They can make lips look thinner. Instead choose a brighter, true red that’s universally flattering or try a modern take on red by applying one that’s infused with metallic shimmer.
