The M Crowd Spills: How to Pull Off Colored Eyeliner and Nothing Else

By: Alanna Martine Kilkeary | Makeup.com by L'Oréal

Scrolling through our favorite beauty Instagram feeds, we see a lot of aspirational makeup trends. But sometimes these trends end up being pretty intimidating — like wearing colored eyeliner and nearly nothing else. To get to the bottom of the best way to rock this look IRL, we turned to our M Crowd babes for their best tips and tricks. Here’s what they had to say.

Ashley Hall

“I really love adding colorful eyeliner to my lower lash line!” Hall admits. And she’s right — this is definitely the easiest way to add a pop of color to a makeup look. “I feel that this is a great way to get introduced to color without overkill,” she adds. “And I like to do a simple makeup look and make the eyeliner the star of the show. With that said, I’ll do no shadow and add my colorful eyeliner to make everything pop!” The L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro Last Liner in Blue is one of our favorites for this.

Julia Salvia

Salvia has a similar approach. “Keep the rest of your makeup simple, but complementary,” she says. This means using out-of-the-box colors that contrast your neutral makeup nicely. We love using the NYX Professional Makeup Vivid Brights Liner for this — and we guarantee you will too.

Madison Murrell

Murrell agrees and says neutral eyeshadow is the way to go. “I would keep eyeshadows neutral when wearing a colorful eyeliner. That way you can choose any color you like, and it will be a nice pop of color no matter what it is!” The Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Palette is our go-to for a great bare base.

Lonyea Maiden

It only takes one major thing for Lonyea to rock colored eyeliner: “CONFIDENCE!,” she exclaims. Her best advice? “Colorful liner isn’t as scary as it may seem; it can be as simple as a pop in your lower waterline or a small wing in your favorite color on your eyelid.”
