It’s a brand new month, which means a new round of products is making their way onto store shelves and into our makeup bags. These are the products that Makeup.com’s editors can’t live without for this September!
I love mineral sunblock (Skinceuticals Sheer Physical UV Defense 50 is a great one), but it’s a widely accepted fact that they will make your skin look white or ashy. And most of the tinted formulas are a strange shade of tan that matches exactly no living person’s complexion. That’s why these drops are magical: I add a few to my SPF to create my own tinted formula in a color that’s the exact same color as my skin. They don’t change the sunblock, and the finish is satiny and pretty. My recipe: three drops for work days to completely even out my skin tone; one drop on weekends for a hint of coverage.
If I’m wearing more than a basic five-minute makeup look, chances are there’s a felt tip liner involved. And this one is my current favorite. It’s thick for a more dramatic result, it’s a super inky black color and it doesn’t crease – a must-have quality in any felt tip liner.
I generally think of moisturizer as a boring necessity that doesn’t do a whole hell of a lot. I layer on so many potent serums, and cream is the final step to lock it all in and keep me hydrated, but that’s about it. This cream, however, has 43 active ingredients(!) so it’s definitely doing something. It feels wildly silky yet sinks in fast, and it smells delightfully botanical. Most notably: It made me completely rethink my position on moisturizer.
I'm always on the hunt for highlighter, and I'm at the point where I'm actually hoarding them. This is the one that I'm currently obsessing over, not only because it looks so so beautiful in its packaging, but because the subtle highlight looks so natural and flattering on my cheekbones.
I've been using this product for about two months now, but it has been a staple for me through the month of August. In one sweep, you combine blush, bronzer and highlight and apply where the sun would naturally hit your face for a really pretty glow. Did I mention that it actually smells like oranges?
Another product that I'm always testing is matte liquid lipstick. I discovered the new Maybelline SuperStay lipstick, and I can't get enough of the "Romantic" shade. It goes on super smooth and lasts all day.
I have been a massive fan of hyaluronic acid for the past year and a half now – I simply can’t go without it. I had been using Youth to The People for the past 18 months or so, but I decided to take a plunge and try the Skinceuticals version over the past few weeks, and let’s just say, I couldn’t be more impressed. This serum looks a little scary at first (it’s actually a purpley-blood red color), but I truly believe it has brightened and plumped my face like nothing else before. I like applying this daily before I put on my makeup, and I don’t think I’ll ever go back.
Even as a beauty editor, I’ve always been super intimidated by contour palettes. I just never seemed to find one that complements my Mediterranean olive-yellow undertoned skin, so I always stuck to basic powder bronzers and highlights – that is, until, I found the UD Shape Shifter. Chock full of eight – that’s right, I said eight – shades, this palette is super user-friendly, and you can easily make dozens of combos that fit a range of different skintones.
There’s not much I love more than a makeup product that is named after a film noir movie and musical, so this product pretty much had me hooked before I even tried it. Luckily, the pigment lives up to its grandiose name, and this illuminating powder literally creates a sunset on your face. It will be my absolute go-to blush this fall.
This product gives you the perfect pop of highlight without the glitter. It's super subtle and gives me just a little extra glow. I'm so obsessed I never leave the house without it – I wear it whether I have a full face on or not.
I absolutely swear by this stuff. I'm so in love with the way it makes my hair feel, and I've already converted a few of my friends. It's hard to find products that my curls consistently love, but I think this might be the holy grail for my hair.
This stuff just feels amazing on my face. I've only been using it for a little while so I can't speak to how drastically my skin's changed, but it definitely seems brighter and more glowy. People have been telling me I look bomb lately, and I think this has something to do with it
