Nail Art or Sun Sensor? Who Cares — It’s Cute

Skincare-obsessed is practically our middle name (it’s the foundation of any great makeup routine), which is why we treat theWinter Skin Relief Day like holidays. In the winter, that means extra steps like using hydrating sheet masks to prep for seamless makeup application, and in the summer that means paying careful attention to our sun exposure and never forgetting to apply SPF. Even though we’ve barely reached the peak of winter, we can all still appreciate a new skincare innovation that L’Oréal debuted at CES 2018, an annual trade show for innovators and breakthrough technologies. The new invention is a UV Sense and it’s a small device that will track your UV sun exposure for you — while doubling as chic nail art that will be sure to win you some compliments.

The reusable UV Sense pairs with an app for both iPhone and Android that will sync data from your device to help you stay informed about your level of UV exposure. Then, you can adjust your sun precaution accordingly to help keep your skin safe. It’s small enough to fit on your nail and pretty enough to match your manicure — or it can also be attached to anything on your person with exposure to the sun (think sunglasses or a hat). According to CNET, the UV sense will only be available through dermatologists in 2018,  but it’s expected to launch globally in 2019 for $40 or less. Move over, 2018 tech giants — makeup-forward innovation is coming for ya.
