How to DIY Lupita Nyongo’s Red Makeup Look From the SAG Awards

Fact: Lupita Nyong’o always brings a fire makeup look to the red carpet. The actress is a Lancôme'ambassadress, meaning, she stuns in the brand’s products on nearly every occasion and stars in major campaigns. Last night, Nyong’o took to the red carpet for the 2019 SAG Awards, debuting a “red-on-red warrior goddess” makeup look created by celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose. The makeup look, paired with her box braids with spaced out clear beads by hairstylist Marva Stokes easily stole our attention away from the actual awards — but we’re not mad about it.

“For Lupita’s SAG Awards look, I wanted the makeup to have a few red accents on eyes and lips to pop against the black Vera Wang top she chose,” explained Barose. “Red is a dramatic color, especially when used as an accent on eyes. It adds drama and strong attitude to the cat eye instead of the usual all black cat eye.”

Ahead, find out how to get the Lancôme makeup look from celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose, himself.

STEP 1: Prep skin with Génifique Hydrogel Melting Sheet Mask and let it sit for extra hydration. Follow withGénifique Eye Light Pearl Serum to massage under the eye area. After the mask, blot off excess, and massage a small amount of the Lancôme Absolue Revitalizing & Brightening Soft Cream on the face and neck. Let it absorb, and then blot. STEP 2: Apply Lancôme Prep & Matte Primer on the T-zone and then use a damp makeup sponge to blend Teint Idole Ultra 24H Long Wear Foundation on the face and fade out toward the jawline.

STEP 3: Apply Teint Idole Ultra Wear Camouflage Concealer under the eyes. STEP 4: Dab Translucence Loose Powder Foundation onto the T-zone and leave the perimeter of your face sheer to bring out the glow.

STEP 5: Add Le Monochromatique in Soiree onto the apples of the cheeks and then apply Teint Idole Ultra Custom Highlighting Drops in Bronze Glow on top of cheekbones. STEP 6: Brush brows up and out with Sourcils Styler in Transparent to set the shape and then fill in brows with Brow Define Pencil.

STEP 7: Prep your lids withEyeshadow Primer Aquatique and then apply the pewter gray eyeshadow from the Starlight Sparkle Eyeshadow Palette on upper lids, winging it out a bit and adding more on brow bones.

STEP 8: Line upper lash lines with Drama Liqui-Pencil in Noir Intense and wing it to give the cat eye shape.

STEP 9: Trace Drama Liqui-Pencil in Brique along lower lash lines, concentrating on the inner corners. Then, with a dampened eyeliner brush, dab the red tone in the Starlight Sparkle Eyeshadow Palette over the red liner.

STEP 10: Accent the liner with red glitter gel liner over the lower lash line and then trace Artliner in Noir along the upper lash line to intensify the look.

STEP 11: Finish the eye look with two coats of Hypnose Doll Lashes Mascara in Black.

STEP 12: Prep lips withAbsolue Precious Cells Nourishing Lip Balm. Let it sit and absorb, then blot off excess to create the perfect canvas for lips.

STEP 13: Line and define lips with Le Lip Liner in Amandelle and then apply L’Absolu Rouge in 151 Absolute Rouge as a base. Then add L’Absolu Lacquer Gloss in 134 Be Brillianton top.
