3 Easy Pastel Eyeliner Looks Anyone Can TryMay 15, 2018
Winged liner is one of those things that will never go out of style. A simple black wing accentuates any eye shape and can be a thin, barely-there accent or a thick, bold line — whatever suits you best. And while we’re obsessed with a classic cat-eye (who knew a black line could make such a difference?), we’re all for trying something fresh and new in our makeup routine. Enter pastel liner. The soft-toned hues are a wardrobe staple but feel daring and bold on the eye. The best part? You don’t have to learn a new skill to try it out.
To get the look, swap out your fave black liner for a bolder shade like NYX Vivid Brights Liner in Vivid Blossom, a pastel lavender liner that looks on pretty much everyone. The formula is one of our faves, and the payoff is intense and pigmented. It doesn’t skip while you apply and even the palest colors show up with just a swipe or two. The brush is similar to NYX Matte Liquid Liner and can be used for detailing or creating a full-fledged wing. Basically, it’s perfection in a slim bottle.
Not ready to jump into a full-color wing just yet? These liners are perfect for adding accents of color, too. You can outline your pre-existing wing, draw a few dots around your eye or draw a line in your crease to make your shadow pop. The flexibility is one of the reasons it’s so dear to our hearts, and the price tag doesn’t hurt either. It’s currently $10 a liner — which is pretty damn affordable considering how pricy liquid liners can be. Right now, there are nine shades available — four pretty pastels and five, vibrant hues that can be mixed and matched to your heart’s content.
Ready to play? Keep reading for three looks we tried using these pretty pastels:
Look 1: Sunshine Outline
This liner look mimics the shape of your eye and creates a geometric effect.
Step 1: Using NYX Vivid Brights Liner in Vivid Halo, draw a thin line from the inner corner of your eye to the edge. Resist the urge to wing it out.
Step 2: Next, think of this liner as the sun and draw an arc around the eye. Follow your natural eye shape and work toward the inner corner of the eye.
Step 3: Connect the two lines you created, and create a point at your tear duct.
Look 2: Top & Bottom
We love this outlined look — it’s easy to do and is great for accentuating the eye. It’s super simple and can be accomplished in one step.
Step 1: Using NYX Vivid Brights Liner in Vivid Halo, line the top of your lid, but don’t wing it out. Next, line underneath your eye and and match the shape of your eye.
Look 3: Negative Space Wing
This look makes your everyday wing a little more fun.
Step 1: Using NYX Vivid Brights Liner in Vivid Blossom, start by drawing a line at the front of your eye like you’re going to line your entire eye and stop a quarter of the way in.
Step 2: Next, create a small triangle at the end of your eye like you would a wing.
