Adding sexy curves and definition to your body can take months of sweating it out at the gym. Adding sexy curves and definition to your eyes is as simple as layering a pair of liners and swiping on a super-volumizing, curl-inducing mascara. We asked makeup artist Rachel Halsey how to darken your lash line and give skinny, skimpy lashes voluptuous curves for a lush eye look.
Step 1: “Starting at the inner corner of your upper eye, apply a thin line of liquid liner,” says Halsey. “As you move towards the outside corner of your eye, gradually start making the line thicker.” Try Maybelline New York Master Precise Curvy Eyeliner. The felt-tip applicator is flat on one side and has a tapered edge, so you can move from thin to thick simply by turning the applicator.
When you reach the corner, flick the liner up and out about ¼ of an inch. “This winged effect gives eyes a lifted look,” says Halsey. Then run the liner along your bottom lashes, using the same tapering (thin to thick) technique, stopping at the outer corner. (Or you can wing it up at the outside corner and connect it to the outer corner of your top liner for a more dramatic look.)
Step 2: Now for the next layer of liner. Most liners can’t reach the tiny spaces between each lash, leaving little bare spots that break up your lash line. “Make it look denser by filling in the spaces between your lashes,” says Halsey. Try Maybelline New York Curvitude Eye Liner, which has an angled pen applicator and a flexible tip that’s specifically designed for sneaking into (and darkening) tiny lash crevices. Halsey says you can dot in the color, or use a slight swiping motion—whatever is easier—and apply to both your top and bottom lash line.
Step 3: With your lash line dark and dense-looking, it’s time to lengthen your lashes.Brush on two coats of a super-volumizing mascara like Maybelline New York Lash Volum’ Express The Colossal Cat Eyes Waterproof Mascara, which has a claw brush to create serious spike and curl (meaning you can ditch the lash curler) at your outer lashes, plus collagen to plump lashes. (Oh yeah, and it’s waterproof too, so you can wear it to the gym or during allergy season without risking raccoon eyes.) Halsey reveals the secret to mega lift and curl: “Wiggle the wand back and forth horizontally at the root of the lashes and then sweep the mascara up and out,” she says. Then—this part is optional—lightly drag the mascara along your lower lashes to give them a touch of length and color without clumps.
