You don't have to wear red, white and blue from head to toe to show your patriotism this Fourth of July. Instead, get into the holiday spirit more subtly with this navy manicure created by Glitter, She Wrote blogger Anna Norman. The stripe accent gives it a perfect nautical touch that looks right at a parade, barbecue or pool party. What you need:
  • Base coat. Try: Cutex Baseworx.
  • Navy nail polish. Try: China Glaze Nail Lacquer in First Mate.
  • Nail art pen. Try: Models Own Nail Art Pen in White.
  • Top coat. Try: Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat.
How to do it: Step 1: Start by applying a base coat and one (yup, only one) coat of navy nail polish. Let the polish dry for five minutes. Tip: "It's OK if [the polish is] a little tacky," Norman says. "Just make sure it's not totally wet, or the white and blue will smear together." Step 2: Paint diagonal stripes on both middle fingers using a white nail art pen or white polish and a nail art brush. Using a super thin brush or pen makes creating even, clean lines much easier. Tip: "Diagonal stripes are also easier to paint on than horizontal or vertical stripes, at least for me," Norman says. "If your white lines aren't perfect, you can always touch up any major mistakes with navy polish on a small paintbrush." Step 3: Let the stripes dry for 5 to 10 minutes. Avoid smearing the lines by finishing the look with a clear top coat.  What do you think of this Fourth of July nail look?
