Contributor Jordan Reid shares her style and beauty know-how to get you prepped for those seasonal events and special occasions in which you want to put your best look forward.
Sure, it's fun to get ready for summer weddings. But when it comes to autumn weddings, it's even more fun.
Why? Because you can start playing with rich makeup shades that won't slide down your face in the 100-degree heat. And you can actually style your hair, thanks to the waning humidity.
I got married at the very start of fall (that's one of my own wedding photos on the upper right) and enjoyed many of the aforementioned benefits. I went for a rich brown eye, major lashes and a relaxed (and happily frizz-free) updo. I also had a mosquito hanging out on my eyelid for the duration of my walk down the aisle, so I guess summer hadn't disappeared completely!
A couple of my closest friends are getting married in Maine this fall, and I started thinking about what to wear to the event in May. That's how excited I am about it. It's a rustic, woodsy wedding, and all our closest friends will be in attendance. And my husband and I have a babysitter, so we're making a night of it!
For the dress, I picked up a floaty pale pink mini with lots of layers, envisioning a sort of wood-nymph/wedding-scene-in-Robin-Hood effect.
But it's my beauty look that I am really excited about.
For a gorgeous fall wedding beauty look, think ethereal and light (it’s not yet winter, after all). Then give a nod to the changing weather by going for a single luxe element, whether that’s high-volume (but reined-in) hair, carefully defined brows, major eyes (bold liner is still the way to go) or a mulled-wine lip.
Here are some of my favorite fall wedding beauty ideas and what I’m choosing between for my upcoming event:
Volume-packed hair. Try creating a teased bouffant by applying a flexible-hold mousse, such as Kérastase Resistance Mousse Volumactive, combing the product through the length of the hair to distribute it and then lifting the front section of your hair and backcombing. Tame it with a narrow headband or sweet ribbon tied toward the front.
Sharply defined brows. Right now I like full, gently arched brows (as opposed to the extreme arches we’ve seen in past seasons). You can always create a lush look at home with L’Oréal Brow Stylist Brow Shaping Duet.
Cobalt cat-eye makeup (as seen at Anna Sui's fall 2012 ready-to-wear show). Dip a damp liner brush into NARS Matte Eyeshadow in Outremer for a seriously dramatic effect, and consider adding a thin swipe of silver glitter like I did here for extra oomph.
Blackberry lips. Two good options to achieve a mulled-wine lip are Dior Addict Ultra Gloss in Black-Tie Plum or Lancôme L'Absolu Crème de Mat in Potion d'Amour. Pair the lip with almost-bare eyes (just a swipe of pale shadow and black mascara) and a hint of blush.
Which autumn wedding idea is your favorite?
