Amid the backstage excitement at the 70th Golden Globe Awards, L'Oréal Paris consulting hair expert Johnny Lavoy shared his exclusive prediction for the look that A-listers will flaunt on the red carpet. "It's about a throwback to classic Hollywood, with vintage-inspired appeal," says Lavoy, who shares the easy steps to creating a head-turning classic finger-wave chignon.
Step 1: Prep your hair with L'Oréal Paris Advanced Haircare Total Repair 5 Multi-Restorative Dry Oil to strengthen and turn strands glamorously glossy.
Step 2: Part your hair in the center. Then create three sections: two on either side from the front to above your ears and one in back. Pull the two front sections forward and secure them with a clip.
Step 3: Gather and secure the back section into a low ponytail placed off to one side for an asymmetrical look. Spray the ponytail with L'Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Extra Strong Hold to impart brushable hold.
Step 4: Create a chignon by splitting the ponytail in two, twisting and braiding the pieces together. Circle into a bun, pinning as you go.
Step 5: To create the old-Hollywood finger-wave texture, wrap the front section of your hair opposite the angled chignon in a small barrel curling iron. Hold hair in the barrel until you feel the heat come through strands to set, and brush through the curl to produce a finger wave. Twist the section elegantly around and into the chignon bun, incorporating it in with pins.
Step 6: Subdivide the remaining front section into five sections, and set each one with the small barrel curling iron. Spray the curls generously with the hair spray. Then brush them out to generate a finger-wave texture. Loosely roll and pin the ends underneath the section for a shape that gracefully flows into the chignon.
