Beauty is an elusive thing. One day we feel like Helen of Troy, and the next, well, hiding in that Trojan Horse of hers has a strange appeal. But let’s be clear, this waxing and waning isn’t contingent upon whether the guy behind the barista machine smiled in our direction. No, no. It’s far more complicated than that.
We’re firm believers that beauty is about how you feel, not how you look. And we’re all-in for doing (and wearing) things that make us feel incredible, regardless of whether the other 50 percent approves. So in the spirit of giving zero @*!#s, here’s our list of the five makeup looks guys hate but we love.
Our penchant for a good alliteration aside, we just can’t get enough of bushy boy brows. Nineties fashion is making a huge comeback right now, but we think it’s safe to say the pencil-thin brows of our youth will rest peacefully in the annals of history.

Sure, we’re into the no-makeup look, and we recognize the "woke-up-like-this" movement is having a moment. But we’re also not ashamed to admit that we still have a thing for playing dress-up. Fake eyelashes, along with mom’s red blush, were our first foray into the wonderful world of makeup, and old habits die hard. Luckily, our technique for applying these wily strips has improved with age.
To achieve the look of falsies sans glue, we recommend this mascara by Maybelline.
The first time we saw Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby, we knew our right of passage into adulthood would have to include a pixie cut. There’s truly something liberating and brazen about shedding yourself of your locks at least once. If for no other reason, it’s a great excuse to dabble in a variety of fun hair products!

While some people measure out their lives with coffee spoons, our metric = manicures. Really though, is it just us, or does it seem like we can’t go but one day post-mani without finding a chip in our nail polish? Don’t get us wrong, there’s nothing like a flawless manicure, and we’re not advocating for utter neglect, but perfection isn’t sustainable. Besides, we view chipped nail polish as the battle scar of a hard-working career girl. You can’t hammer away on a keyboard all week without having something to show for it.
Yes, our mothers taught us not to smack our lips, or give any lip, for that matter. But if loving the slightly “chewy” texture of a fresh layer of lip gloss is wrong, we don’t want to be right. Besides, guys might pretend they don’t like the sticky trace we leave on their lips, but deep down we know they like to savor the flavor.
