Swatch Off: Where Makeup.com’s three assistant beauty editors compare and contrast the latest and greatest palettes and collections in all the land. Here are our favorites from the Gigi Hadid x Maybelline collab.
My favorite shades of Gigi's matte lipstick are Lani and Khair, which are from the West Coast collection and Erin from East Coast Glam. I'm always looking for red lipstick shades with blue undertones, or ones that are more of a subtle-red, berry shade. That's why I steered away from Gigi's brighter, orangey red in Austyn and opted for Khair and Lani. As for the purple-nude shade of Erin, I'm looking forward to debuting its uniqueness on a cool fall day in NYC.
I'm also loving the brush, bronzer and highlight trio from the Jetsetter Palette. I'm particularly obsessed with the highlight because a little goes a long way. As for the bronzer and the blush, they're pretty sheer yet buildable when they're applied with the brush that comes with the palette — making for natural-looking coverage.
I have to say: I’m really impressed with how much I dig Gigi’s palettes and collection here. I think I favor the East and West Coast palettes the most because I LOVE the color payoff of the glitter shadows, and I love how you can use them in so many different ways — whether you’re highlighting or using it more concentrated on the lid. I also am loving her lipsticks, especially in the shade Lani, because not only is that one of my nicknames, it’s also a gorgeous blue under-toned red that would definitely be my go-to for a fall evening out.
I’m a believer in the idea that you can never have too many lipsticks — especially red ones, and I am adding Khair and Lani to my stash. The entire West Coast collection is stunning and looks great alone or with a darker lip liner. I also loved the illuminators — they give you the perfect hint of color without tons of glitter. Gold is a classic, go-to shade while iridescent is great for when you walk into a room and want a pop of color to introduce you first.
