It's been decided: Blue is the new black. It's hard to deny the influence that the hue has made on makeup artists' choices when we saw it up and down the Fall 2012 runway...multiple times.
  • We spotted it on nails, via Wanda Ruiz for CND's "deep sea digits" manicure at Karen Walker.
  • Vibrant shades were used on eyelids at Prabal Gurung created by Charlotte Tilbury for MAC Cosmetics.
  • It was used as a replacement shade for the perennial black eyeliner as done by Charlotte Willer for Maybelline at L.A.M.B.
  • Candice Manacchio designed a textured "starry night" manicure for CND at Rachel Antonoff.
If you're now feeling the blues for fall, here's a few tips on how to get the look: DO play with different shades, shimmers, and textures of blue to formulate the perfect blend that you feel comfortable wearing. We love the new Maybelline EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Eyeshadow in Tenacious Teal for its great pigment, saturation, and incredible staying power. DON'T be afraid to wear blues during the day, and even to work! Start with a nail color, and work your way up to a thin line of deep blue or turquoise liner. DO pair it with black and other hues that may add definition, like a mauve or deep maroon eye shadow, having a sand or cream shade as a base. DON'T go overboard; Tilbury didn't add any mascara to her blue eye look at Prabal Gurung, and although it's fine to add some blush and bronzer for a slight contour, keep lips matte or natural.
