We love hearing from makeup experts and enthusiasts about their tips and tricks of the trade when it comes to beauty. Today, makeup extraordinaire Marcela Alcala sounds off on the perfect lipstick looks for those tricky outfits!
There is nothing more amazing than scoring the perfect outfit! Everything seems to fit just right and everything in your world is perfect. Your face makeup looks nice and flawless, you’ve got the perfect earrings, but when it comes down to picking out the best lipstick it can get tricky! I chatted with high-fashion makeup artist Stephanie Gomez for Top 5 Management, to help us find the best shades for the looks we love!
Little Red Dress
When going with a bold color such as red, it’s best to keep the lips neutral, says Gomez. Allow your dress to be the statement! Instead of trying to match your lips to your dress, which can be challenging, try a peachy-nude lipstick (like NYX Cosmetics Simply Nude Lip Cream in Peaches) and finish the look with a coat of lip gloss!
Sequins-covered dresses are absolutely gorgeous and they definitely shine on their own. Use a lip shade that will not interrupt the sparkly pattern or colors, says Gomez. When in doubt, always rely on your basics! Try a mocha-brown lipstick (like L’Oréal Paris Infallible Le Rouge in Lingering Mocha) for a sexy twist on the natural lip!
Every single one of us has a dress that features the classy and classic charm of yesteryear (think Audrey Hepburn hemlines and silhouettes)! Pick a lip color that enhances your skin tone! Try a light, iridescent violet (try L’Oréal Paris Infallible Le Rouge in Perennial Pink) to illuminate your complexion!
A dark and mysterious dress is the perfect canvas for unexpected lip color! Be creative and try vivid colors you normally wouldn’t, says Gomez. A bold lipstick is very important to add that boom to your look! Try an orangey-red (like Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids in Vibrant Mandarin) if you really want to dazzle ‘em!
Believe it or not, nude attire is hot and sexy! Best of all, it makes for a perfect pair with one of our favorite trends of the year! Dark, burgundy lipstick (like Giorgio Armani Rouge D’ Armani Lipstick in #610) is the perfect pout for any nude-colored ensemble, says Gomez. So go on and wine-stain your lips!
