Although we’re big fans of the summer season, we are not fond of the toll it takes on our hair. The seasonal heat can be a real drag, leaving your hair flat, frizzy, dry and dull. Although we are well in the midst of the summer solstice, we want to help you thwart any negative advances on your precious locks. There’s no reason you should be lounging in the sun with bad hair! Keep your beach bag stocked with these seasonal must-haves and you’ll be floating through summer cool, confident and coiffed!

Dry Shampoo. This refreshing little number has become an absolute staple in the handbags of many. If you haven’t jumped on board the dry shampoo wagon, summer is the perfect time to introduce yourself to its hair-saving powers! Quickly absorbing oil or sweat that may occur due to the heat, dry shampoo is a great way to completely refresh your hair while on-the-go. We love L’Oréal Paris Everstyle Texture Series Energizing Dry Shampoo, as it’s light-weight and has a clean scent that won’t leave you feeling over-perfumed.

Leave-In Conditioner. We cannot get enough of this stuff! Not only does it soften the natural texture of your hair and make it more manageable, but it also helps control frizz and tame the flyaways in your pony or braid! Try Alterna Bamboo Beach Summer Sun Recovery Spray, which revitalizes your strands while protecting them from fading.

Texturizing Spray. The last thing you want to do in the middle of summer is deal with a hot blow dryer. If you’re tired of pulling your mane into a pony every day, try a texturizing spray like Shu Uemura Liquid Fabric Mineral Texture Spray. Spritz it evenly over damp (or almost dried) hair, scrunch with your hands and let it settle in your hair for a few minutes. The result: natural, beachy waves that are perfect for day or night festivities!

Purifying Shampoo. During the summer months we are constantly abusing our locks — and aren’t even aware that we’re doing it! Swimming (in the ocean and in the pool) is the main culprit of much of the dryness and damage that happens to your hair. Salt water contains minerals that dry out and harden hair, causing it to turn brittle and eventually break. The chlorine and chemical content in pools are also extremely drying and can change your hair color (you blondes are particularly susceptible to this). Use a shampoo like Pureology Purify Shampoo, which is great for cleansing your hair of any impurities that may cause it to look dull or lackluster.

Repairing Treatment. If you have already fallen victim to the summer heat, fear not! Repair treatments are your shield and sword. Opt for a nutrient-rich product like Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition 3-Minute Undo Dryness Reversal that strengthens and moisturizes even the most dehydrated manes.
