Every once in a while a backstage makeup look happily takes you by surprise and makes you want to work into your routine (if not wear it all the time). Such was the case with the makeup at the Cushnie Fall/Winter 2019 show. It was love at first sight and had all the trappings of a good makeup look: universally flattering, easy to recreate and a little innovative. The show, lead by Maybelline New York Global Makeup Artist Grace Lee, featured a monochrome terracotta look. Lee chose the trending shade to contrast the “black, berry and blue” pieces in the show and swiped it on models’ eyes, cheeks and lips. For added drama the models wore a “cool-girl cat-eye,” which breaks up the orange-y tones without taking away from the entire look.

See a full breakdown of how to get the look, ahead:

STEP 1: The key to this look is a glowy, fresh base, so we recommend starting by priming the skin with an illuminating primer and applying Maybelline New York Fit Me Dewy + Smooth Foundation.

STEP 2: For extra coverage, use Maybelline New York Instant Age Rewind Dark Circles Treatment Concealer to spot conceal and blend using a damp beauty sponge.

STEP 3: Next, use a deep matte bronzer like Maybelline New York City Bronzer in Deep to contour. This will give skin a warmed-up look without added shimmer.

STEP 4: To lock it all in, swipe on a setting powder like Maybelline New York Face Studio Master Fix Setting + Perfecting Loose Powder in Translucent.

STEP 5: To get the perfect terracotta hue, Lee combined Maybelline New York Mauve for Me and Spice for Me and applied it to lids, lips and cheeks.

STEP 6: For the “cool-girl cat eye,” start by creating a wing-shaped outline using Maybelline New York TattooStudio Sharpenable Gel Pencil Liner in Deep Onyx and go over it with Maybelline New York Eye Studio Master Precise All Day Liquid Eyeliner to create an extra-bold, dark wing.

STEP 7: Finish off the eye with Maybelline New York Snapscara Washable Mascara in Pitch Black.

STEP 8: The key to this look is a “boyish-but-groomed” brow. Get the look using Maybelline New York TattooStudio Brow Pomade to give brows shape and use Maybelline New York Great Lash Mascara in Clear to lock them in place.

STEP 9: For lips, start with Maybelline New York Color Sensational Shaping Lip Liner in Raw Chocolate and Rich Chocolate and pat Maybelline New York Superstay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick in Globetrotter on top.

STEP 10: For added dimension, and to create a cohesive look, apply the Made for All Lipsticks in Mauve for Me and Spice for Me to replicate the terracotta blend on the lips and eyes.
