On Beauty: Why We Love Emma of @emmaamemma
December 06, 2017Beauty means something different to everyone, and we’re on a quest to find out why. This week, we’re profiling Emma of @emmaamemma — member of the Mizani Texture Squad foursome and our hair crush.
When did you start wearing makeup?
I started wearing makeup when I was in middle school. I was probably 12 or 13.
What was your first makeup product – would you still use it today?
My first makeup product was black pencil liner. I don't think I've used pencil liner in years – I used to wear it on my waterline and it made my eyes look so small!
Fave makeup product right now?
I'm a huge beauty junkie so my favorite beauty products change so often. I recently tried the new Monsieur Big mascara from Lancôme and I'm loving it! It's perfect for daytime looks because it lengthens my lashes and adds just enough volume without looking too dramatic.
The one product you can’t live without?
It's not a makeup product but it does affect my makeup! Can't live without my Clarisonic. I like to use it 2-3 times a week, depending on how my skin is feeling, and before every photo shoot. When I travel, I like to use my Kate Somerville Exfolikate in its place, which I'm also obsessed with!
Your beauty philosophy in 8 words or less.
My makeup looks best when my skin is happy. Skincare is key!
Tell us a little bit about your hair? Is it your baby or just a thing on top of your head?
My hair is big, bold, and beautiful. She has a mind of her own most days! But I love her.
What’s your go-to product? Go-to hairstyle?
My go-to product is my MIZANI’s 25 Miracle Milk. This is the honest truth – it has cut my wash day time in half because it is the best detangler I have ever used.
My go-to hairstyle is a wash and go until my curls lose their shape, and then it goes into a giant bun.
What’s your relationship with your hair? Has it always been your fave or has it been hard to love?
I could write a whole article about my relationship with my hair! When I was younger, I wanted straight hair but I recently learned what products to use and how to style it, so now I love it. I can't imagine having any other hair.
How does your hair impact the way you view yourself? Does it make you feel more confident or beautiful?
My hair is not what makes me feel confident or beautiful. Confidence and beauty come from within!
Craziest hair story (wild dye job, crazy undercut, etc.)
Last November, I had an emergency appendectomy. I was put on medication after the surgery for about five months. I did not know this but apparently, certain drugs can change the color of your hair! I naturally have auburn hair with some brighter highlights and [because of the medication] my hair was growing in bright red! Luckily, the pros at MIZANI were able to color correct me back to my natural color.
