Dying your hair is one of those freeing, impulsive vibe changes that can totally switch up your mood, akin to chopping your bangs or getting a random tattoo. And by that, I mean I’ve never had the guts to do it. Fear of commitment is the simplest reason: If I go full blonde for the summer, I think, am I going to regret it once the air gets cold? Does the full jet-black look make me look like I’m pretending to be goth? These are the basic concerns, but there’s also the simple fear that dying hair usually implies wrecked follicles, broken ends, and more. Frankly, I’m worried enough about keeping my hairline where it is.

This problem has a simple solution: washable hair color. The  L’Oreal Paris Colorista Temporary 1-Day Hair Color is a one-day spray that goes in and out with no permanent effects on your hair. In the spirit of Halloween, I decided to test out their red, blue and silver varieties. I started by giving myself silver wings. From there, it got addictive: my friend and I gave ourselves red polka-dots before going out at night, then we striped in some blue.

L’Oreal Paris Colorista Temporary 1-Day Hair Color Review

The color is exactly what you’d want. It shows up even against dark hair, I assume by having the pigment sit on top of the hair instead of soaking into the strands. And yes, you can wash it out when you’re done, although you’ll need to be thorough; multiple rounds of shampooing were necessary, and I still needed to go back in later to fully remove any traces of blue from my scalp. The only real downside was that while colored, my hair was slightly crunchy and harder to style, so make sure you’re whipping it into shape before applying. There were also some towels that ended up streaked with color, although the dye came out easily in the wash. Overall, this is a super simple way to switch up your look or get into costume.
