Picture this: the sun is blazing, the sand is between your toes and your foundation is melting as fast as the ice cream in your hands. Gross. Don’t let this ruin your perfect summer selfie.
We caught up with Chelsea Bice, Dermablend Professional national makeup artist and head of education, to figure out how to make our faces stay picture perfect even on the hottest of days.
“Nothing breaks makeup down faster than heat,” Chelsea says, “whether [heat coming] naturally from the skin, the weather or from stage lights, I take several steps to make sure my makeup lasts all day. It’s all the steps before and after that keep the makeup lasting, not just the makeup itself.”
Here’s the foolproof routine Chelsea uses to stay picture perfect for her TV appearances and all day after.
Step 1: In the beginning there was a good base
First prep your skin with a good primer – the newly launched Dermablend Professional Insta-Grip Jelly Primer is a unique formula designed for makeup gripping to make sure your foundation stays ALL. DAY. LONG. It’s silicone free to make sure it grips better.
A piece of advice from Chelsea, “your primer is the last step of your skincare routine, right after applying sunscreen.”
Step 2: cover it up
“Foundations are a personal choice: depends on skin type, level of coverage, or desired texture,” Chelsea says.
Dermablend has a full range of foundations for almost any combination of preferences, from stick to cream to liquid drops, they’ve got something for everyone.
Chelsea’s pick? “Right now for summer, I’ve been using Smooth Liquid Camo Foundation as it is a hydrating foundation with SPF 25 in it.”
Apply using a sponge, your fingers or a brush depending on the amount of coverage you want.
Step 3: Set yourself up for a day of flawless
If you have oily skin or prefer a matte look, use loose setting powder, if your skin is on the drier side and you want a dewy look use the new Power-Setter 2-in-1 setting spray. For maximum staying power - use both!
Step 4: Take it all off
On these hot days with all the perspiration, maybe you did a few more touch ups through out the day (and obviously reapplied your sunscreen every 2 hours, right?) it’s really important to remove all your makeup.
“One of the best tips I learned in the start of my makeup career is to make sure you effectively remove all your makeup before bed,” Chelsea is particularly enamoured with the Dermablend Pro makeup dissolver. “It is so gentle yet totally wipes off even the most waterproof lipsticks and eyeliners and long wearing foundation.”
