Today, she is sharing her best-kept secrets and precious advices on career, best places to shop and her fave beauty products.

How did you get started in makeup industry?

Ever since I was a very young girl, I’ve been spending time in front of the mirror playing with beauty products. My grandma used to buy all of her makeup and skincare at department stores and I can remember her giving me samples and gift with purchases she didn’t need as early as 5 years old. I was in awe of the fancy packaging and beautiful products so that kind of started my love affair with beauty. I later went on to study fashion at Ryerson and ended up working in a marketing department for company that own retail beauty stores, salons & spas in the US. I approached the CEO one day and explained that if we wanted to compete with emerging big brands like ULTA and Sephora we’d need to get on social media. This was in the early days of social media and I was one of the only few in the office and company for that matter that knew about social media so the CEO gave me the project and I managed and created all the content from there.

What moment in your career (so far!) are you most proud of?

I’m most proud about leaving my 9-5 job because I wanted to create something for myself. I saw the power of social media to build a brand and figured it made more sense long term to focus on building and creating my own blog and brand so I could have full creative freedom and be in charge of strategy. My now husband Jose learned how to take pictures for me and Jodiblk.com was born.

What's your favorite beauty product at the moment?

Touche Éclat is my can’t live without product but I also can’t live without the YSL Beauty All Hours Concealer either.

Aside from a wallet and phone, what do you keep in your bag at all times?

A lip product. I feel completely and totally naked without something on my lips when I go out, even if it’s just a clear balm.

If you weren't doing your job, what would you be doing and why?

I think I would for sure be working in Fashion or Beauty in the digital creative world. I would love to start working with bigger brands on their content creation strategy + production. I think in my next life, I’m going to do something with dogs because I love them so much and they make me so happy.

What does beauty mean to you?

To me, the most beautiful people are the ones that are happy on the inside and take good care of themselves. I think it’s important to get enough sleep, drink enough water, take time for yourself and treat others with respect. I also do a lot of facemasks, take really good care of my skin and eat healthy… I swear all of those things make me feel more beautiful. I feel ugly when I’m stressed or near burn out.

Favorite Store

I love to go to high-end department stores when I’m in Paris like Printemps and Gallerie LaFayette to find inspirations in the designer boutique sections, then when I’m home, I go to places like Zara and H&M to try and recreate the looks that inspire me.
