Applying highlighter is probably one of our favorite parts of our routine. Whether it’s a chunky pearl shade or a bronze-y Champagne, the brighter the highlighter, the closer to the beauty gods. When it comes to deciding whether to go for a cream or powder formula, the choice is in the hands of the artist — but combining products make this a lot easier. “When it comes to highlighter, I’m much more of a cream advocate, but powder tends to have a lot more staying power, especially if you lean towards oily skin,” says Makeup Artist and Beauty Director at Sephora, David Razzano. Want the best of both worlds? “A hydrating mist is key.”

Enter the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra Fine Mist paired with a power-packed highlighter, like the Puma x Maybelline Masterchrome in Knockout. “As an artist, there are ways to use certain skin-care products that act in the way that one would use as a mixing medium,” Razzano says. And that’s exactly how he uses the Ultra Fine Mist. First, dampen your brush with a few spritzes, pick up some of Knockout with the brush and begin to apply. “Because there is so much dampness in the brush, it blends into the skin like a cream would,” he notes. Instead of sitting on your skin heavily, the cream-like texture melts right in and actually blends effortlessly onto your cheekbones, down your nose and on your Cupid’s bow.

Not only does this make applying highlighter a lot easier, but it also makes it appear more seamless and natural — like your skin is glowing on its own. “I think everyone nowadays realizes that skin care and makeup should be symbiotic,” says Razzano. “This is not two separate steps anymore.”
