Maybelline Is Using Facial Recognition Technology to Help You Find Your Perfect Foundation Match

In a world where finding your foundation match is akin to rocket science, it can be challenging to say the least to find your perfect fit. Things get even trickier when you’re shopping online. That’s where the wonderful world of foundation finders come in, tools that help you to figure out your perfect shade without leaving the comfort of your home. Maybelline New York is the most recent brand to release a new version of its foundation finder tool — a major move for the drugstore retailer. Drugstore foundations are notoriously difficult to swatch in-store, and this makes it easy to take the guesswork out of finding your match.

Maybelline’s foundation matcher uses facial recognition technology (the first of its kind) to help find your shade, and it offers a personalized reading of your skin tone. All you have to do is take a selfie. You don’t have to download an app to use it either — just take a picture of yourself and the tool will get to work.

The tool also allows you to pick your preferred coverage level and finish and will recommend the best Maybelline face products for your needs. The foundation finder works fast (it only takes a few seconds) and offers three product options for you to choose from.

When I tried the tool (using a MacBook camera might I add), the results were impressively close. I opted for a light-coverage product and the tool recommended Maybelline New York Dream Fresh BB Cream in 140 Deep. My other options were Fit Me Matte and Poreless Foundation in 338 Spicy Brown and Fit Me Dewy and Smooth Foundation in 355 Coconut (an exact match to my usual Maybelline shade).

You can also use the finder without uploading a selfie, which functions similarly to a quiz and uses information like skin tone range and undertone to help you determine the best fit. To use the foundation finder, head over to maybelline.ca and try it now.
