Red, yellow, pink, green, blue, purple and orange. When I think of all these shades, I think of the endless opportunities that they bring … for eye makeup. I love blending eye shadow shades, and I know things can get a bit “muddy” if the wrong color combos are used. It's important to choose the right combination of eye shadow shades for the final look to turn out just so. To help you avoid a makeup meltdown, I’ve included some of my favorite shadow pairings for you to try at home!
1. Gold and Brown
This eye shadow duo is great for a subtle smoky eye. Gold and brown go beautifully together, and the result is both elegant and striking. Try applying your eye shadow before your foundation so you can clean up any fallout.
Matte cream and taupe are a classic shadow pair that works great any time and with any outfit. Wash the lid with cream shadow, and work the taupe into the crease and on the outer edges to create definition. Bonus tip: It's easy to find these eye shadow shades together in duos, trios and palettes.
Burnt orange really pops on the lid, creating a point of focus. Navy, when blended into the lash line, provides a nice contrast and a trendy edge. All you have to do is dust the lid with your orange shadow and buff it out just past the crease. Then, smudge your navy shadow into the lash line using a short, flat brush. Pro tip: Try using a concealer brush to apply navy shadow — you'll get more impact.
Rose and champagne eye shadow shades are universally flattering, soft and feminine. They're a must in every cosmetic wardrobe. Apply the champagne eye shadow all over and pop the rose onto the lid, stoppping at the crease. Blend the eye shadow colors well so the transition is seamless.
