With holiday season in full swing, we often find ourselves reaching for deep, shimmery jewel toned hues and lots (and lots) of glitter. And while these products swatch beautifully and look great when first applied, after a few hours of blinking, drinking and generally moving around it’s almost expected to find your shadows in your crease or under your eyes — even when using a great primer. So how do you stop the injustice of shifting shadows? Two words: setting spray. This trick is particularly helpful for those with wrinkly, or hooded lids that fold into themselves — eye shapes that can make it difficult for eyeshadows to stay put.
First, a Good Primer
To start, we recommend opting for a primer with lots of hold, especially if you’re using loose glitters or ultra-shimmery shadows. Cue NYX Glitter Primer, a tacky formula known for its impressive staying power and ability to minimize fallout. Once applied, allow the formula to dry down before adding shadow (it starts out creamy), and then pat your color or glitter into place.
Next, a Bomb Setting Spray
Once you finalize your look, set it with a longwearing setting spray like Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, and let it fully dry. If you have a hooded eye, we recommend closing your eye while the look sets so you don’t disturb your hard work.
