5 Editors Put the L’Oréal Paris Makeup x Karl Lagerfeld Collection to the Test

Every time a fashion house and beauty brand collide, we prep ourselves for a lot of bold lipsticks, inspiring color stories and stunning packaging. That’s why we were so excited to find out that the Karl Lagerfeld brand teamed up with L’Oréal Paris to create a collection of six new Color Riche lipsticks, two liquid eyeliners and a mascara. Ahead, five of our editors put the bold eye and lip collection to the test.

L’Oréal Paris Makeup x Karl Lagerfeld Color Riche Lipstick in Provakative

It takes a lot for me switch up my red lipstick because I have a few favorites I’ve been using for years (cue: Maybelline New York Super Stay Matte Ink in Pioneer), so when I tried Provakative for the first time, I was a little apprehensive but am happy to say that it certainly didn’t disappoint. Provakative has a creamy red consistency that takes little to no effort to swipe on. Thanks to the hydrating Color Riche formula, I also find that it doesn’t dry out my lips like other pigmented lipsticks tend to do. The boldness of this lippie is so good that it has finally convinced me to switch up my go-to red formula more often.

I always want my mascara to give me long, voluminous lashes, and the L’Oréal Paris x Karl Lagerfeld Volume Mascara does both. It lengthened my eyelashes while also adding next-level drama and fanning them perfectly. It’s all thanks to the mega-plumping brush that looks like it's packed with a thousand bristles. Let's not forget to talk about this sleek all-black tube — it’s very Instagramable.

Karl Lagerfeld X L'Oréal Paris Color Riche Lipstick in Kontemporary 

Admittedly, I have too many nude lipsticks to count. I know my love (ahem, obsession) may seem a little excessive but here’s the thing, I feel like each and every nude shade I come across has a different vibe that matches different makeup looks. For example, I love the shade Kontemporary for its pinky, neutral tones that look like the shade of my lips without any lipstick. It’s my true nude that goes great with a no-makeup makeup look. Not to mention, the formula is super moisturizing and creamy making it a great option all year round.

L’Oréal Paris Makeup x Karl Lagerfeld Matte Eyeliner

I typically steer clear of eyeliner. My shaky hands don’t necessarily lend themselves to a smooth line, and me and my perfectionist self will spend hours trying to make my wing look straight. But this liner may have converted me. The finger grip makes the product easy-to-use and gives me more control during application. The liquid formula dries down matte (and super quickly!) and doesn’t budge throughout the day. While black is my go-to for an everyday look, I’ve been switching things up with the metallic finish for a night out with friends.

L’Oréal Paris Makeup x Karl Lagerfeld Color Riche Lipstick in Kontrasted

I’m one of those lipstick lovers who rotates my everyday shades with the seasons, and Kontrasted is the perfect color for winter. It’s buildable, so you can stick with the berry shade, or layer it to make it even more dark and dramatic (AKA, exactly what I do). If you want something bold but seasonally appropriate, wear this. The formula is also super hydrating, so I don’t need to worry about my lips drying out when I wear it. That’s always a risk when wearing a lipstick in the dead of winter, but with this, I don’t have to worry about patchiness or flakiness throughout the day.
