Moisturizers can be one of the most complex factors in a gal’s life! But, in the array of options to choose from, what do you look for and how do you know what’s right for you? And once you find “the one,” are you even using it properly? Here are some helpful hints for solving the moisturizer mystery.
The Importance of Cleansing
Before applying anything to your face, be sure to cleanse your skin daily to remove any oil buildup that has accumulated throughout the day or night. The best way to do this is by using a Clarisonic with the Deep Pore Cleansing Brush Head nightly to banish blackheads, whiteheads and clogged pores. Cleansing properly will not only wash away excess sebum, but will also allow for better product absorption.
To SPF or Not to SPF?
Yes, Yes, Yes! Did we stress that enough? One thing to never, ever skip is a lightweight UVA/UVB sun protection cream such as L'Oréal Paris Youth Code Day Lotion SPF 30. Make sure you use enough – at least a dime-sized dollop is necessary to get the job done. MDC Quick Tip: Not a fan of layering both an SPF and moisturizer? Mix a little of both together with your fingertips and generously apply to your face!
Oily Skin. Use a product that’s so light it feels almost non-existent. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate Night Care Facial Oil can be used in place of a heavy moisturizer. We know what you’re thinking, oil on oily skin? We must be crazy! But, seriously, the oil your skin naturally produces is not the same as oils used in skincare lines, meaning it’s safe and can actually be good for your face!
Sensitive Skin. Moisturizers that are fragrance-free, detergent– or “deodorant–” free and alcohol-free are best for sensitive skin types. An ideal fix is the Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum, which is chock-full of minerals and provides 24-hour hydration.
When is the right time to apply and how do I do it?
Within three minutes of getting out of the shower, or immediately after cleansing your face in the sink. Don’t forget to use a toner first!
Be gentle! Tugging on your skin can cause premature wrinkles. Use soft, upward strokes while applying the moisturizer.
