Everyone has hair, but not everyone has the same relationship with it. For some people, their hair is their pride and joy, and for others it’s just another one of those things. Let’s talk about it.

For this Hairstory, we profiled curly-haired beauty @hermela: blogger, youtuber, and (my) hair crush.

Tell us a little bit about your hair? Is it your baby or just a thing on top of your head?

My hair is everything to me! It has so much character and really fits my personality. My hair has not only allowed me to love myself but to also be myself, no longer having to hide behind society's beauty standards.

What’s your go-to product?

Currently, my go-to leave-in conditioner is Garnier Fructis Curl Nourish Butter Cream and my go-to styling cream is the Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie. I've been using both for over five years.

What’s your relationship with your hair? Has it always been your fave or has it been hard to love?

I would say when I was younger I definitely had a love/hate relationship with my hair due to the lack of knowledge I had on hand to care for it. This led me to continue straightening it throughout my younger days. But currently I love and embrace every part of my natural hair and believe it is a big part of who I am today!

What’s your go-to hairstyle?

My favorite go-to hairstyles is honestly leaving it completely down, and that's when I feel the most confident. Throughout the day I may throw it into a high messy bun or a pineapple to let my face breath!

Hair fear?

The possibility of hair loss the older I get. I love how thick my curls are so it scares me to even think about potentially losing that luxury.

Who is your hair crush?

My hair crush would have to be Nia, aka @Frogirlginny.

What’s your maintenance routine?

My maintenance includes deep conditioning my hair the night before my wash day. After I've rinsed out the product the next day, I apply a leave in conditioner, styling product, then finally some oil to give my curls some shine. When going to sleep, I find it easiest to style my hair into a pineapple to pull my curls out of my face! Seems like a lot, I know.

How does your hair impact the way you view yourself? Does it make you feel more confident or beautiful?

I believe my hair in a way does make me feel more beautiful and confident, but does not take away from my inner beauty if I decide to slick my hair back into a bun! My hair is only a part of who I am and who I want to be.

Tell me about a time you did something to your hair you regret.

When I was in middle school I thought I could cut my own hair — and let’s just say I really screwed that one up!

Craziest hair story (wild dye job, crazy undercut, etc.)

I don't really have a crazy hair story, but it's never too late!
