Everyone has hair, but not everyone has the same relationship with it. For some people, their hair is their pride and joy, and for others it’s just another one of those things. Let’s talk about it.For this Hairstory, we profiled beauty influencer Ashley Hall of @curlsfothegirls.1. Tell us a little bit about your hair? Is it your baby or just a thing on top of your head?Well, I’ve been natural for a little over 5 years, and I absolutely love my hair! I recently changed the color so I’m in love all over again. My hair is definitely my baby, and I make sure I do everything I can to keep her healthy and looking her best.2. What’s your go-to product?This is hard because I have a lot of favorites, but my go-to product that I’ve used faithfully is the Bumble & bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil UV Primer. It provides UV protection, which is great for colored curls, and it also detangles hair, keeps hair soft, manageable and moisturized, and it smells tropical.3. What’s your relationship with your hair? Has it always been your fave or has it been hard to love?I’m in my fifth year of wearing my hair in its natural state, and I couldn’t be happier. I used to chemically straighten my hair for years, causing chemical and manual damage because straight hair was the thing when I was growing up. Now, I truly love my hair! I love my curls and I enjoy coloring my hair, so the change was great for that. Maintenance does get tiring sometimes, but it’s worth it. 4. What’s your go-to hairstyle?I love wash and gos because they’re really easy to do (in my opinion), and this particular style shows off my natural curl pattern. I also love mohawks and high puffs on three to four day-old hair since it has the right amount of frizz. The frizz makes it a lot easier to create the height I like with those styles! I also like to do twist outs and rod sets here and there to switch things up and give my hair a break.5. Hair fear?A hair fear of mine would be having an allergic reaction to hair dye! I love coloring my hair, and I hope that I never have to experience that kind of allergy.6. Who is your hair crush?I don’t really have a hair crush at the moment. I’ve been crushing on myself since I changed my color!  Photo credit: @dp.jolly7. What’s your maintenance routine?My maintenance routine consists of a weekly wash, detangle, deep condition and style. If I need to hydrate or refresh my hair mid-week, I will use a refresher spray, or I’ll co-wash my hair with a conditioning cleanser and restyle. I also get an in salon haircut every two and a half to three months to rid myself of those dead ends and to maintain my shape. During this time, I’ll get an intense moisturizing and strengthening treatment, which drastically reduces breakage and makes my hair feel like a blanket. I love it! Now that my hair color has changed, I’ll be in salon every one to one and a half months for a color refresh, but the haircut and treatment schedule will remain the same.8. How does your hair impact the way you view yourself? Does it make you feel more confident or beautiful?My hair makes me feel bold and confident. I’m usually the brightest thing in the room, so I really can’t hide. I also love having a standout color because I do just that — stand out. It won’t be easy to lose me in a room. 9. Tell me about a time you did something to your hair you regret.I regretted the time I got Senegalese twists. I think the style is beautiful, but it didn’t work for me. My head felt super heavy, I missed my hair after a week or so, and my hair didn’t feel the same once I took the twists out.10. Craziest hair story (wild dye job, crazy undercut, etc.)The time I got Senegalese twists! When I took the twists out, I think I lost more hair than necessary, and my hair felt limp and lifeless, even after deep treating it. After the treatment, I tried to detangle my hair and got a huge knot due to the amount of shed hair. I ended up cutting the knot out — not even caring about how much hair I had just cut! I gave myself a week and then had my hair cut into a tapered twa. It was one of my favorite styles, and I honestly plan to revisit it...soon.
