At this point in the season, your makeup bag is probably brimming with highlighter, tinted sunscreen, creamy blush and popsicle-colored lipsticks. And, while we understand the lure of flamingo pink and tangerine lips, we would like to throw a wrench into your summer operation and encourage you to mix things up a bit. If you’re a stickler for style rules (say, you’re one of those that NEVER wears white after Labor Day) you probably keep your rich, dark lippies stored away with your winter sweaters.
Well, it might be time to break out those vampy shades early. Not only are these deep shades totally flattering on all skin tones (yes, all) but they also work for any season and any time of the year. Heck, vampy red has been touted as one of the hot shades for summer and has been seen on many runways since January. So, put those reservations and limitations to rest and make vamps a part of your “essentials” list with this lipstick tutorial.
Here's a step-by-step breakdown of how to create the look at home:
Step 1: Swipe on a lip primer.
Step 2: Apply a neutral concealer to create a clean working space and make sure you get the best color payoff.
Step 3: Line this lips with a liner that matches your lipstick or an invisible liner.
Step 4: Apply your lipstick. For better accuracy, work the color in with a lip brush.
Step 5: Clean up the edges of the lip with a cotton swab and makeup remover. You can also apply a little concealer around the lips to get rid of any rogue color.
Step 6: Apply a matte gloss over the lips to seal the color.
