How to Create an Early ‘00s Beauty Look Without Looking Like a Middle Schooler

Beauty trends from the early aughts are still taking over our social feeds, but let’s face it, some styles might feel a little too juvenile to pull off in the real world. Complex hairstyles with loads of ties and clips and makeup with frosty pastel hues can all feel very middle school. That’s why we tapped makeup artist and influencer Britney Delgado of @glamxbrit to put together a modern 2000s-inspired hair and makeup look. Keep reading to learn how to recreate it.

  • STEP 1:

    Lay Down Your Base

You want your base to look super natural and glowy. Use a lightweight foundation formula like YSL Beauty Bare Look Tint. Swipe cheeks with a pink cream blush like Maybelline New York Cheek Heat in Coral Ember (30). If your skin tends to get oily, target those areas by setting them with the NYX Professional Makeup Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Mattifying Powder in Bright Translucent.

  • STEP 2:

    Layer Your Eyeshadows

Brush the peach shade Gadget from the Urban Decay Cyber Eyeshadow Palette all over your eyelids. Then, apply the shade Bite, a brick red hue, on the outer corners of your eyes, winging it out like you would with eyeliner. Go back in with Gadget along your lower lash line.

  • STEP 3:

    Add a Pop of Shimmer

Layer a shimmery pink shadow like NYX Professional Makeup Jumbo Eye Pencil in Strawberry Milk (605) on top of your eyelids. Then, apply a pale pink shade like Call It from the Cyber Palette on top with your finger for a brighter metallic look. Drag that down to your lower lash line to really make this shimmery eye look pop.

  • STEP 4:

Define the Lashes and (Optional!) Embellish the Look

Finish your eyes off with mascara. Delgado also added cute, heart-shaped sequins to the inner half of her eyelids.

  • STEP 5:

    Apply Your Gloss

  • STEP 6:

    Start Sectioning Hair

For your hair, separate two one-inch sections at the front of your hair, and secure them on each side of your head. The rest of your hair can be tied back into a ponytail so it doesn’t get in the way.

  • STEP 7:

    Finish the Half-Up Look

Part the front pieces evenly into four smaller sections. You can use the pointy end of a comb or even a pencil for sharp, clean lines. Then pull them each back across the top of your head and secure with elastics. Pink elastics will match your makeup and give off a super Y2K vibe.
