If you know and love Maybelline like we do, there’s a good chance you’ve seen and admired the work of Erin Parsons, the brand’s global makeup artist and Gigi Hadid’s go-to. This NYFW, we had the chance to follow Parsons backstage before the Alice & Olivia presentation to get a peek at the look before it hit the runway. Upon entering the crazy backstage beauty workspace, our eyes were immediately drawn to super cool, glitter smoky eye makeup paired with minimal face makeup, natural brows and a natural lip.

Needless to say, we found Erin Parsons immediately to get the rundown on how we can create a more subtle version (or not, if subtle isn’t your thing) of the look at home without the help of a professional makeup artist. The look, which Parsons claims to actually be “pretty easy,” is described as “classic rock ‘n’ roll meets opulent Marie Antoinette finishings.” For the presentation, makeup artists painted actual black glitter onto the models’ eyelids for drama and applied Waterproof Maybelline Temptation Mascara to curled lashes to catch any glitter that could potentially fall. Your own lashes as a protective barrier? Who knew.

So whether or not your average night calls for meticulously painted black glitter or a less messy alternative (try the Maybelline City Mini palette), your eye makeup will still look like you just stepped off the runway. Check out the steps to get the look, below.

Get the Look: 1. Prep your skin with Maybelline Master Primer Hydrate + Smooth Primer before applying Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer where needed. To eliminate any excess oil, dust Facestudio Master Fix Translucent Powder over any shiny spots.  2. To create the smoky eye, apply Eyestudio Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil in Sleek Onyx to the FaceStudio Concealer Brush and blend it through your crease and along your lower lashes to give it a rock ‘n’ roll effect — no precision needed. Then, define your top and bottom lash lines with the same pencil before using the Master Fixer Makeup Remover Pen to diffuse the eyes of the eye for a sultry, smudged effect. 3. Apply black and silver shadows from the City Mini Palette in Concrete Runway for a sultry sheen. Polish your lashes with Total Temptation Waterproof Mascara in Very Black, and brush up your brows with Eyestudio Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Gel in Clear.  4. For hydration and shine, pat Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm in Quenched onto lips.
