Mix Up Your Mascara Game With This Trending Pink Lash Look

With every day comes a new trending makeup look or technique. And while colored mascara is near and dear to our hearts, we’ve recently spotted a barely-there mascara shade popping up on our feeds: a pale pink that intentionally washes out the lashes but still makes a statement. In order to nail down this out-of-the-box trend, we chatted with freelance NYC makeup artist Kasey Spickard — and here are his tips and tricks to make pale pink mascara look anything but invisible.

How to Apply It

Since this exact shade of mascara doesn’t exist, as far as we know, Spickard suggests using lipstick as a hack. “To apply, use a very small flat brush and and dip it into a matte nude lipstick and brush it from the root to the tip of the lashes on both top and bottom,” he says. To increase your length and volume, use a lash primer first like the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara Primer, and apply your nude "mascara" on top.

For the Makeup Minimalist: Go Monochromatic

If you’re going for a nude mascara look, keep your entire shadow look as monochromatic as possible. “Use your concealer or a nude matte lipstick and brush it onto the lashes and run through with a spoolie,” he says. “And then you can use a similar shade of eyeshadow all over the lid and as a drop shadow on the lower lash line.” If you feel like you’re not quite ready to delve into the realm of using non-eye products on your eyes, try using a mascara primer instead.“The monochrome finish will give you an ethereal almost ‘alien’ kind of look,” says Spickard.

For the Makeup Maximalist: Smoke It Out

If you instead want to completely go for it and make the look extra editorial, Spickard suggests making the neutral mascara really stand out against a more intense smoky eye. “This way, the lashes will really pop and give you an inverted Pop Art kind of look,” he says. It’s all about creating that contrast to make your pale pink lashes really stand out, and this will do just the trick. “Similarly, you could do a neutral shadow and a large winged liner. Again, you're creating a nice backdrop for the lashes to contrast against,” he says. And we certainly can’t wait to try it out ourselves.
