We’re perpetually inspired by the colorful shapes and lines of the ’70s — the groovy disco era that makes us want to wear bell-bottoms and tiny glasses straight through 2020 and beyond. We nearly stopped in our tracks, though, when we happened upon this vinyl record eye makeup look by Instagram artist Tyra Janea. In fact, we loved it so much that we tapped Janea to help us recreate a similar look. Follow her four-step tutorial below but don’t be afraid to put your own spin on it.
  • STEP 1:

    Prime the Eye

The first step is to prime the eye with a moisturizing concealer, says Janea. We recommend using the L’Oréal Paris True Match Eye Cream in a Concealer because it has hydrating hyaluronic acid to keep your eye area looking awake and vibrant.

  • STEP 2:

    Create Your First Circle

Janea then applied the vibrant blue color from the NYX Professional Makeup SFX Face and Body Palette in Brights to the inner third of her lid in a circle with a round eyeshadow brush. You want to carry your circle over to just past the inner corner of the eye, where the bridge of the nose slopes up. Now fill in the circle with the same color and a smaller, detailed brush. To set it, Janea recommends adding a layer of translucent powder on top before applying the next circle.

  • STEP 3:

    Apply Your Second Circle

Next, mix the black shade from the NYX Professional Makeup SFX Face and Body Palette in Primary with the vibrant blue from the Brights palette on the back of your hand. With the smaller detailed brush, apply a slightly smaller circle inside the circle you just created to achieve the vinyl-record effect.

  • STEP 4:

    Complete With Shimmer and Mascara

To finish the look, Janea added a touch of a sparkling purple and blue highlighter on her cheeks and in the inner corners of her eyes. We like the Urban Decay Disco Queen Holographic Highlight Powder if you’re looking for a recommendation. To finish your blue look, apply a lifting mascara like the L’Oréal Paris Air Volume Mega Mascara and go out and get your groove on.
