Every year, L’Oréal Paris honors a series of extraordinary woman who have selflessly dedicated their life to volunteer work at the L’Oréal Women Of Worth Awards — and last night’s annual affair was no different. Philanthropic stars aligned as the nominees were celebrated by celebrity L’Oréal spokeswomen like Aja Naomi King, Iskra Lawrence, Amber Heard, Julianne Moore and Eva Longoria.

Because You’re Worth It -- is not just a tagline for us, it’s an ethos for the brand,” said Longoria in an emotionally charged speech, “it exists to lift up women, to give them confidence and celebrate them, it’s more than lipstick, it’s more than a hair color, it’s to make sure that you understand that you are worthy.”

The nominees this year included every type of humanitarian girl boss — from 17 year old Shreya Mantha, founder of Foundation For Girls that works to alter life trajectory for at-risk girls and young girls in crises, to 47 year old Jennifer Maddox, founder of Future Ties — an after school safe space program for elementary school students in the Chicago Woodlawn area.

The ultimate honoree of the night — Christy Silva of Aidan’s Heart Foundation, shared her story of the loss of her seven year old Aidan to an unexplained cardiac arrest. Since his passing, Silva has dedicated her life to providing 1,800 children with EKG screenings to detect any possibilities of life-threatening conditions. Silva’s foundation also helped pass state legislation in Pennsylvania coined Aidan’s Law, which ensures that all schools are equipped with up to date AED devices.

Women of Worth reminds us that beauty lives far beyond the eyeshadow palettes and lipstick that sits in a makeup bag — beauty is philanthropy, altruism and selflessness too.
