Spring is one of our favorite seasons for plenty of reasons: new beauty launches, warmer weather, more frequent helpings of ice cream and glowy, sunkissed skin. While we’re not on board with basking in the sun unless we’re lathered in SPF from head to toe, we know many of our readers are looking to get their summer tan on. Contrary to popular belief, tanning doesn’t need to involve harmful rays or sunburns. Instead, we’re advocators of self-tanning as long as you use the right techniques and quality products like St. Tropez Pre Shower Mousse for the easiest application ever or L'Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion for an instant bronzy glow — and yes, using a mit is key.

Now that you have the information you need to make your most successful self-tan happen, we encourage you to check out our 10 favorite #SelfTannerFails from Twitter. We have a strong feeling some of you might be able to relate.

My legs look like they have tiger stripes. #selftannerfail

In a attempt to look a little less like a vampire I put on self tanner. No tan in sight, but at least I smell like soy sauce! #fail

So I tried a new self-tanner today. It was a massive fail. I currently look like this: pic.twitter.com/du0v9PkFdT

OMG. I've committed a cardinal sin in the beauty world. Nervous for an early am mtg, I forgot to wash the self-tanner off my hands. #fail

Self tanner can either look bomb or be an epic fail . There is no in between

Life Lesson 11/25/17: Don’t apply self tanner when the light is dim...can’t see the mistakes you may have made until you wake up and then say ..... oh boy!!

So, as it turns out, the gradual self-tan is not quite that gradual. #fail

when you mistake your face wash for your self tanner

Pro tip: don’t self tan then go out into the rain

Note to self: Remember to pluck full eyebrows into desired shape before getting tan. Otherwise, they are not tan underneath. Even though it looks funny AF, I am too old to make the same mistake every year. #personalgrowth
